I recently got hearing aids (both ears) but I am having an issue. When I talk it sounds like I have a bucket on my head or if I have a bad head cold and my ears are plugged up especially when I am in a store or restaurant. I do have an appointment with my audiologist next week but until then I thought I would check in here first to see if anyone else had this issue with their hearing aids.

Thank you

When you return to the audiologist, they will fine tune them. No reason you should live like that. Getting hearing aids was one of the best things I have done. No one knows I'm wearing them and I am amazed everyday with what I have been missing.

I've been using hearing aides for several years.  But, I had a hard time getting used to them.  It took a couple of visits to the audiologist for fine tuning.  They are mini computers so I don't think there is anything you can do.

This is part of the process, @Squirt60.  You're getting used to something new and different and this is why there are follow up visits scheduled.  Now, instead of sound being out in the open around you, it's being received, perfected, amplified, and directed straight into your ear.  Your audiologist will make any necessary adjustments to either enhance some parts of sound or reduce them, fix your baseline volume, etc., so you'll be at your own comfort level.

I have had mine for a few years.  Expensive but worth the investment!  I don't recall having the problem you have described.  But, I do have buttons on each of mine that I can adjust sounds up and down...quick click.  If you don't have that feature, I think I would take them out until appointment with audiologist.

You'll work out the tuning bugs, @Squirt60 .  My BFF got one last year and once she got things fine tuned life was great (for her and for her friends!).

@Squirt60 Hope you are seeing an audiologist who holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech Language Hearing Association (designated as CCC-A) and not just a hearing aid dealer.  Hope your problem is soon solved!

@Squirt60 I have often followed an audiologist on youtuve called Dr. Cliff.  Lots of information.

Got my hearing aids about 3 years ago.  The most frustrating thing for me was that it was a process of information and adjustments over several months.  I'm the kind of person who wants to know everything and get everything done up front and first time around.

I rarely wear mine as I forget about them and I really like the quiet.......purchased over the ear and sort of wish I had tried on the earbud style also....went against my "investigate/research everything first" personality. LOL

My issue is fit w/one ear......needed a longer wire on one than on the other. Sometimes they interfere w/ my cheaters that I constantly wear.

Good luck w/yours.........it does take time and often a few adjustments.

My husband experienced the same issue; simple resolution by the VA audiologist with an adjustment to the programming.
