OMG! That would be awful! That prep work was the worst. I guess my IV doesn’t seem so bad now.

Hmmmm, I think they would have to give me some kind of specific explanation before I would be satisfied...I mean the vague part of this is what is more concerning then that the fact it was cancelled. I would need to know if it was animal, vegetable, or mineral. Ha!

I had a funny thing (to me, anyway) happen yesterday. I was at my GP's and he said he thought I should try a B12 shot...I've never had one before. The nurse came in later and said she was going to give me half a B12 shot.....cause that's all they had.

I hope everything goes well with your surgery and I'm sorry that it was cancelled. Good Luck!

It happened to my girlfriend last year.She lives in Florida. Her surgery was put off twice.They finally called her 3 months later to bring her in.She declined.

The doctor originally told her she shud have the procedure ASAP.But yet he put it off for 3 months past the original date.She came to New York to visit & saw her brother’s specialist.He felt it was too soon to operate.He prescribed meds.She’s doing fine.She now comes to New York every 3 months to get checked.In her case it worked out for the best.

Sorry you are going through this. What a horrible experience.

I would be so ticked off especially going through getting the IV. If you have problems like I do which it sounds like you do I would have been furious to say the least. I hate needles also. They freak me out.

If they came in to tell me surgery was off until tomorrow I would want to know why. Don't tell me you don't have a piece of equipment because that sounds like a BS story IMO. Just tell me the truth & be upfront with me.

I'm with Laura someone probably had to much sauce if you know what I mean.

They would not be charging me either. I would tell them don't bother billing me for anything you did today as I did not have surgery & am not paying for it twice.

I so feel your pain, my story isn't exactly the same. On the morning of my colon cancer surgery after not eating for a week the surgeon came into my hospital room and told me he had an emergency flooding problem at home and has 7 month old twins and no power and could we cancel until the day after tomorrow. What could I say? I didn't want him to be resentful if I insisted on surgery and I also wanted his head completely in the game. So another two days on a clear liquid diet! But I am sure it was for the best.

I understand the frustration. BTDT when I was to have a procedure done at a medical center not on the hospital’s main campus. Like yours, my husband took the day off. I filled out the paperwork and was informed that I wouldn’t be able to get my procedure done that day due to the fact that if there was a complication they weren’t set up for that. Totally annoyed, I thought, “this place is filled with doctors, and they can’t handle a complication that’s unlikely to happen anyway?” IDK, maybe they didn’t have a piece of equipment they usually do. They insisted that I had reschedule at the main campus. Sure would have been nice if I had been notified before we left home to not bother coming in but in the end I appreciated them putting my safety first.

Yes, they will because they are entitled to charge for canceled procedures. They will charge her insurance company for use of the pre-op room, for starting the iv, for whatever supplies they used.

They will charge, but they probably will not get paid. Most of the services provided were unnecessary and not medically necessary because the surgery was not completed due to some error on their end.

Blood work and any other diagnostic work that might have been done will be paid though.

Thanks. The specialist was my PCP's mentor. I asked my PCP if he knew what happened and he did not. When I got into the procedure I asked the team what happened to the doctor. Their reponse..."We don't know and we probably will never know." It is good to speak up for yourself, but I find you must do it in a polite, considerate manner.
