Re: Has this ever happened to anyone?

@chrystaltree

I did ask & they were very vague about it. The ultrasound guy said he had no idea what the problem was & said they used the machines last week & everything worked fine. Maybe I’ll get more info when they call me back. Whole thing seems strange...

At the very least  it should have been the surgeon who came to talk to you. I would have serious reservations about this facility, and I would ask to speak to the person in charge

for an explanation.

Re: Has this ever happened to anyone?

You should have been informed as to what's going on--did you ask for specific details?--if not, they will not volunteer information. If this happened to me, I would've asked to speak to a nursing supervisor and ask him/her why your surgery was canceled that day. I never accept being fluffed off with a non-explanation. I've worked in hospitals and medical offices my entire career--and I've learned to open my mouth--I do not allow myself to be intimidated--there had better be a really good explanation if my surgery is canceled after being prepped and my husband took off work. Just saying.

Wonder if they used the machines in a surgery before your surgery was scheduled and had trouble with the machines. And did not want to risk using the machines on you and have trouble. Or maybe they were testing the machines before your surgery and thought there was trouble with the machine.

I can not see them going to all the effort to prep you and then just say OOPS! nevermind.

But please do check that the hospital does not double charge you. It happened to my husband. The hospital did ONE MRI on his knee. But charged him twice. He called his insurance company and the hospital. But the hospital said it wan't worth trying to correct. And the hospital couldn't care less because the insurance company paid two for the same MRI.

Re: Has this ever happened to anyone?

@Tribesters  No, never has happened in the several surgeries I have had.  It would be upsetting to have to go through all the emotions and feeling prior to surgery a second time.  But, nothing in life is 100 % and if they had you on the table and then realized that they were missing something.... THAT WOULD BE EVEN WORSE.

I guess you just need to deal with  it all the best you can.  Not a good thing... but stuff happens....

Re: Has this ever happened to anyone?

@Gracies Mom

Both DH & I asked what it was they didn’t have. The nursing supervisor was the one that told me about it initially. He was very vague but did say it wasn’t the doctor’s fault in any way. The doctor’s office called me as soon as I got home & apologized. They didn’t really seem to know what was wrong either. The whole thing is baffling to me.

Both my sons are in the medical field. One works at a major hospital & he thought maybe it was the surgeon but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t. The other one jokingly blamed it on the government shutdown. I live in a rural area & I’m thankful we even have a hospital. But now I know why people go to bigger hospitals when they can.

They’re supposed to call me back in the next hour. Maybe I’ll get more info then.

Re: Has this ever happened to anyone?

yes for colonoscopy....i was called after i hd started prep at home   told the doctor had to cancel  ...told them i had already prepped and this was an imposition so they scheduled me four hours after my regular time samew day.  it got done, but they hurried to do their prep  ..fortunately everything went well ... a week later i received a letter from the doctor announcing his retirement...

@drizzellla

That’s kind of what I was thinking- they tested the equipment & something didn’t work. Obviously I was disappointed to be sent home but it would be worse if they started the procedure & something went wrong.

I will definitely make sure I go over my bill to make sure I’m only charged for the one procedure.

@nana59

Lol- I’ve taken my Mom for a few procedures & they always told her she could take her Xanax. I could have used one today.
