Re: Has anyone here ever had surgery for nasal polyps?

I had 3 rounds of antibiotics, last one was 3 weeks of doxicyline... absolutely no change, the headaches got way worse. So that's when I called the doc, and was referred to a specialist.... hopefully they can do SOMETHING. I don't have time in the a.m. to do ice packs before work {#emotions_dlg.sad}

It has to be its the wrong antibiotic for the bacteria. I know I went though the same thing. Oh I hear you on the time thing. When my Dad was sick and I had to take him for a early appointment I had to get up an hour before normal time. That was just to sneeze for an hour, rub my eyes and attempt to shower. If I didn't I was like you, attempting to put on makeup while my nose was running and eyes were swollen. When I was really pressed for time I would stand in the shower with cold water running on my face. Brrrrr. It BITES!! Praying you get relief soon!

Can you tell me what your daughters symptoms are? Is it sinusitis? I've had chronic sinus infections for 5 years, and this year it won't go away. My head is throbbing, and my eyes are swollen, just finished 3 weeks of doxycline and its getting worse, the headaches. Doc wants to schedule a CT scan though its very expensive...with my insurance. Can you tell me a little about your daughter's issues/history? Thanks.

I just got back to this post and saw this. My daughter has had nasal polyps for quite some time. But she never had them last this long, and they are so large now, the doc can see them just by lifting her nostril with his finger. She also has dark circles under her eyes, which I think may be related. She has been tested for allergies and all they can come up with is dust mites.

She says she doesn't have symptoms at work, or at the animal shelter where she volunteers, nor at PetSmart where she also volunteers every Wednesday night, and that's all cats. I was afraid it was her cats (she has three), but that wouldn't make sense that she would be allergic to just her cats. I don't know what she would do if she were, she would never give them away, I guess she would have to get shots.

She will need surgery, and I have googled it, and so has she, and the recovery can be very painful and long lasting. But if these polyps keep growing, she's going to have no choice. Doc tells her she should have the surgery now.

Ford, if DD is allergic to dust mites, the first thing she should do (and will see immediate improvement) is to cover all pillows and the mattress with allergen protectors. I got mine at BBB and the next day there was marked improvement when I woke up.

My friends BIL also takes medication daily due to mold in his sinus cavity, and has done so for many years. His condition is related to his career, which started in a warehouse and stockroom, handling the clothing for a big name store.

This she has done. I think what started out as an allergy has now become a physical problem that has to be attended to. Perhaps once she has the surgery (which I am not looking forward to her going through) and the polyps are gone, then perhaps the protectors will prevent them from growing back. Fingers crossed.

Thank you for your suggestion. Smile

Re: Has anyone here ever had surgery for nasal polyps?

My husband had them and it turned out to be plasma cell cancer. His oncologist had never seen it, nor had his doctor, so he was a test case at the hospital where he was treated with radiation. He had to have a CT scan, MRI, and other blood tests to make sure that the cancer had not spread in his body. Thankfully all was ok after radiation, except the polyps on the other side were too far up and had to be removed in the OR. He is 3 weeks out of surgery and doing ok, although the inside of the nose is still tender. They had to go clear down to the bone to get it all.

The lesson is don't wait to get your polyps removed. His doctor told him it was unlikely to be cancerous, but his turned out to be, and could've taken his life!

Re: Has anyone here ever had surgery for nasal polyps?

OK, well unfortunately I will still have to continue to deal with this...no polyps, The ENT doc did the scope, said my nose was very narrow and deviated septum, ordered a CT, not sure I will do it, as it will probably be near $1000 with lovely useless obamacare now, and he seemed to think my problem was more allergies. My nose was so dry he said to stop the Nasonex and use the nose gel and saline solutions. At least the mucinex helped my headaches and he said something about taking meds for migraines, which I'm not doing. I'd rather treat the source, not the symptoms....I'm already on all kinds of allergy meds.

Since your problem is allergies have you considered allergy shots? It does take about five years for a full course to be effective and the costs add up. But it was one of the best things I have ever done. I hated being drugged all the time on the meds, now I do not need them except in the spring as I did not get treated for my spring allergies. It's never too late to do this, I did it in my fifties.
