Re: Has anyone here ever had surgery for nasal polyps?

Holy smokes this sounds like me....very runny or dry nose, bleeding sometimes....red, sore eyes, headaches, smell of smoke 'sometimes'!! I have been doctoring for several years and finally had an MRI, which showed nothing wrong, which is good I guess....I have an appt with an ENT in a month (took two months) to get in. I cannot wait to hear what he has to say.

Momtodogs, have you had a CT scan also? Let us know what the ENT says...and feel better. I'm hoping the decongestants at least help me get through the next month!

Re: Has anyone here ever had surgery for nasal polyps?

Ladyjenn,

Sorry I had to run out. Lets see. Yes my nose was very dry. The OCEAN is just a spray that moistens your nasal passages. I have never used a neti pot. The Ocean is very inexpensive and there is a Walmart brand. I have a bottle everywhere.

I did have the ENT look up my nose with that lighted thing. But that was after my surgery. The MRI was all different angles and showed him what he needed to do.

Momtodogs, It seems although a CT scan and an MRI are similar they check for different things. (anything to cost us more money) I too have doctored for years. Without Mucinex D I don't know what I would have done. It drained my sinuses, and made me feel human. If I had an early appointment I always dreaded it cause there wasn't sufficient time for my sinuses to drain. If it wasn't for the migraines that started I may of never went to the ENT. About 8 months before my sinus surgery I was so sick. I went to the walk in clinic. The DR said oh its just post nasal drip, allergies. She gave me Flonase, which did nothing. I went a few weeks and got worse. Then I had laryngitis. By the time I called my doctor I was a mess. I had bronchitis, laryngitis and ear infection and a sinus infection. I didn't believe her. I was so bad she sent me for a chest Xray. My "go to" over the counter drugs that saved me were the Mucinex D and Tylenol sinus (green pills). After the surgery I was told to always use the OCEAN to moisten my nasal passages, use a humidifier and blow my nose alot. LOL

Good luck to all! I would love to find out the results you all get. I know someday I may face having to do it again. I have no clue why they were blocked. We don't smoke, but my job is filthy. I have been there 25 years ( UPS )and the dirt is unbelievable. Who knows. All I know is I sympathize with all of you. Its a horrible pain.

Yes I did about 10 years ago. I have very bad allergies and I was suffering until I went to my ENT. He was quick to decide what was to be done. In two weeks I was able to smell again. I also underwent allergy tests. No more ear infections, sinus infections, sore throats, etc. I am so happy I did that and they have not returned. Good luck to you.

Re: Has anyone here ever had surgery for nasal polyps?

my DD had that done in the doctors office. He held a bowl under his chin and the polyps just dropped into the bowl as the doctor took them out. I don't know if he cut or burned them out but you could smell something that's for sure. He came right home and never had a problem. He had a lot in both nostrils, size of lima beans. This was over 20 years ago and not a problem since.

Re: Has anyone here ever had surgery for nasal polyps?

OK well I got the Mucinex D last night after trying a few stores, all west coast ports are closed for a week, because of idiots making $200k per year striking, which is affecting all kinds of products in stores here. I found it and took the first one this morning. My headache was a little less bad this morning, I took the regular strength mucinex yesterday....so we will see how it goes. I have an appointment for the specialist end of February! My eyelids are still swollen, but I slept with a bigger pillow last night, hoping that will help.

Hi Ladyjenn, Try cold compresses or even hot on your eyes. Boy I know exactly how you feel. If you have an infection and you probably do you will need a antibiotic. Your probably like I was where you need months of something. I'm not sure why sinus infections are so difficult, all I know is I'll take any cold over that. For me that has always been my weak spot but since my surgery I've been good.

Good Luck with the DR and if you have to be aggressive. I was fed up when I went. Especially if you have a history. Hopefully with the proper antibiotics you can beat this! Feel better and let me know how your appointment goes!

I had this done in July 1998 with the expectation to redo the surgery every decade or so. Rough couple of days but sinus infections disappeared. Had sinuses checked two years ago due to headaches but found out this was not the culprit. Sinus polyps have still not returned. Get the surgery ASAP!

Re: Has anyone here ever had surgery for nasal polyps?

I had 3 rounds of antibiotics, last one was 3 weeks of doxicyline... absolutely no change, the headaches got way worse. So that's when I called the doc, and was referred to a specialist.... hopefully they can do SOMETHING. I don't have time in the a.m. to do ice packs before work {#emotions_dlg.sad}
