Has anyone had “radiofrequency ablation“..........

Has anyone had “radiofrequency ablation“ for knee pain? If so, how long did last with eliminating pain?

@Naturesbeauty

I think there is another thread talking specifically about this type of knee treatment. Not sure it is in this Wellness forum  or maybe Among Friends or Community Chat. Those are pretty much the only forums I visit regularly. There were several replies.

I have no personal experience with it.

Never heard of radio frequency ablation done on knees.  I had it on my back but it did nothing for me.  I would think other treatments for knees would be more effective.

My husband has had this done on his lower back due to arthritis.  Sometimes it works very well and sometimes it doesn't.  It can last up to 6 weeks for him, sometimes only 2.  He has been having this done for the past 4 years.  I don't think in his case it's worth it but there is no talking to him.

I would suggest you try it once and see what the outcome is.

@Naturesbeauty , my mother-in-law had it done for back pain and like @Kachina624 it did nothing to help her.

Thanks everyone for your posts. I was asking for a friend who needs a knee replacement. She did the injections and it didn’t help. She needs a knee replacement but her doctor told her she could try radio frequency ablation for her pain. I just think IMO that she is just prolonging the inevitable.

Re: Has anyone had “radiofrequency ablation“..........

I just posted about having this done for my back.  The post is called "Nerve Block For Back Pain."  The doctor told me it would last about a year.  In my case, they use an anesthetic first to make sure they've got the right place.  Then later they do the ablation.

I have had steroid injections in my knees twice.  Once it helped, and the other time it didn't.  That only lasted about six weeks, so it wasn't worth it for me.  If you choose to do the ablation I hope it helps you.

@World Traveler my friend had an MRI on her knee today. She wants to know if her knee is “bone on bone” or if it’s arthritis. She’s a mess, very negetive person. Type of person that is going to doctors constantly and wanting something to be wrong all the time. It’s really sad.
