Several local podiatrists here recommend rubbing Vicks vapor rub on nails that have fungus. When I had a couple spots appear on my big toe nails, I tried it and it worked for me.

I've read of that being recommended for ingrown toenail pain but didn't know it was for nail fungus as well.

I always heard that the best way to treat that is to take a pill for sometime. You need to treat it internally.

The problem with that, would be the potentially dangerous side effects. Just go check webmd. Drug interactions can be pretty bad too. For this reason, many doctors refuse to prescribe an oral anti fungal agent for toenail fungus.

My podiatrist said the only thing that works is to remove the nail.

Have you tried a vinegar soak? It's worth a shot. Equal parts warm water and vinegar. It's an old remedy and some have had good results.

It worked for me. This summer my big toenail was a mess. I thought I would give Vicks a try. And now if you look at the nail it looks normal again. There is still about 1/4 of an inch toward the tip of the nail that still has a small bit of the fungus. But it is a big improvement from what it was this summer. I am glad I gave it a try. I only put it on when I thought of it - which wasn't too often. And I haven't put Vicks on in months. So I must admit I was sporadic in treating the nail and it still worked well.

I did have laser, about one year ago. It still took one year to clear up. I also bought a gizmo to sterilize all my shoes.

My daughter and my friend had a fungus toe too, and their nail just fell off, mine never did.

Don't take the pill, it is very bad for your liver.

Are you positive it is a fungus? I thought mine was fungus.

My podiatrist told me my 3 thick toenails were due to "stress" to my toes and nails.... no fungus. He sanded them down, that's all I can do for them. Too late for my feet and toes are shot from years of wearing heels to work in.

These nail salons have govt. inspections, but still they give fungus to their customers. I got it on my nails. Klearsil works, bought it at Walgreens. It is expensive but it works. Bought 2 tubes and it was gone. I refuse to go to any salon anymore.

Many years ago, I had an ingrown toenail on my big toe. I went to a podiatrist who screwed up the nail and it became fungus. A few months ago, the fungus was so painful - growing under and around the nail. This time, I went to a more knowledgeable podiatrist who shaved off the nail and fungus (with a small appliance that was plugged in) -- and he put a glue product, which he and another person developed, on the nail and around it. It's in a small bottle and looks like a clear nail polish. I went back a couple of times already and he just shaved off a little more. I go back next week. He's hoping the fungus disappears and the nail grows straight.

Just curious: was this product FDA approved?
