I have had this done back in the eighties - perhaps 4-5 times.  The worst thing for me was that I had to eat soft cool food for a week each time.  They took tissue from the roof of my mouth and used it for gums.

 

I did have good dental insurance, but still had to pay a portion of the cost.  Don't remember how much.  I am glad I had it done back then.
