@Sooner   This is so sad. What most people take for granted, you can't have. Have you been through the sleep meds? My daughter is going crazy with no sleep.

@IMW  @panda1234  You know, over the years I have discovered I just don't need as much sleep as most people.  I function will most of the time.  Sometimes I cannot get to sleep at all.  Thanks for the kind thoughts.  Yes, sometimes it makes life really difficult, but I don't like feeling groggy from meds probably more than tired and cranky!  LOL!!

Re: Has anyone had experience with idiopathic insomnia?

I’ve never needed a lot of sleep. Five hours a night is normal for me.  I recently added potato starch to my diet and that is making me sleepier at night. I read a bit about this phenomenon, but don’t really understand it.

I added the potato starch for digestive reasons, not for sleep problems.

@ Montana That is very interesting. My daughter gets her fair share of potato starch, it's her favorite food.

Re: Has anyone had experience with idiopathic insomnia?

Sleep meds do nothing for me, even after surgery I’ll sleep for an hour, whereas most people would be out for 4 or more. They are also habit forming especially for someone who has nightly insomnia.

I’m retired now so it’s much easier to handle, I’ll rest when I need to, it’s not sleep but it helps.

Also whenever I can sleep I do.

Has your daughter been to a sleep lab? Does she have good sleep hygiene- going to sleep at same time nightly, using bedroom only for sleep and se—, no caffeine, etc.

I wish her luck, and peaceful sweet sleep.

@lolakimono Thank you. I will check with her doctor regarding this. This would benefit me as I have restless leg.

Re: Has anyone had experience with idiopathic insomnia?

My Dr wanted me to take magnesium because mine is low.  I have slept a bit longer twice.  It's been over a year since I could do this

But I have stomach issues that wake me, so ,I might not be a person who reacts like everyone else ,to this
