@OfCourse wrote:Thank you for that info, @Moonchilde. Then she should try to see Urgent Care. She cannot go weeks or more itching if this doesn't quiet down. I would call the ER all the same. Maybe they wouldn't talk to me, but maybe they would when they had a minute. I do not live in the boonies, though I do live in the world center for medicine where there are probably more facilities than most places.
I never tell people what to do (medically or otherwise). I can share my knowledge and experience where relevant, but in the end it's up to the person. Insisting that someone must do this or that doesn't work. They will if they want to, when they want to...or not. I think people might benefit from someone's knowledge and experience, IF it's relevant to them, but I don't think they really need help as far as the decision-making.

Thank you for that opinion, @Moonchilde. I do think makena should try to call the ER and talk to a doctor. They could at least give her the number of Urgent Care, where she could go in the next day or two. I have no idea whether she needs to wait another day or two for the medicine to start working. If that's the case, she can wait. As for myself, I would at least want some input as to whether I could wait. Maybe the ER doctor did that, or maybe he would say something different if he heard about her symptoms now. I have no idea, but I think she should at least call the ER and see what they say and get the number for Urgent Care. As you can see, when someone asks for advice I always tell then what I think they should do. I read things about how sometimes people just want to vent, but it's just not in my nature to listen and not give advice, even if that's what they want. I can't help it.

@makena wrote:@pigletsmom but it's not just my scalp or halrline on my neck. That's a new area. The first few episodes did not incude the scalp.
@makena I know, I'm just saying don't just disregard the idea that it could be something you've been using for a long time. So it could be a laundry product you've used for a long time that all of a sudden is giving you trouble. I have never been sensitve to anything in my life so I was shocked that something I had used with no problem for over a year was suddenly causing trouble. Plus I really love the shampoo

Hope you find relief soon, I would be sure to not eat or drink any artificial sugars.

@makena, My heart goes out to you. This incessant itching encompassing so much of your body has to be maddening. And exhausting... and coupled with the unreasonable workplace attitude about taking time off for a valid health concern, well it's amazing that you still have your wits about you.❤️
To build on what was posted, already, I'll offer a few thoughts. The 2 medications definitely are indicated so I hope you can set aside that concern. I've spent most of my life working in medical offices, clinics, and hospitals... while it's true in general you likely won't find the ER able to expedite a connection with a PCP or a specialist, it wouldn't do any harm to ask them. An Urgent Care staffer is probably more likely to help you with that, just from my experience, but that's not a given either.
If this is allergy-related, it truly could be something you've always come in contact with (or ingested) or it could be something that's changed but you're not aware of it. One of my favorite foods, for years, was crab -- then, almost overnight, I had an anaphylactic reaction to it and never have been able to eat it since. I don't know if this would help, but I'm brainstorming: with migraine, it can be helpful -- sometimes essential -- to keep a daily diary of as many details of the day as possible (food, drink, meds/vitamins/supplements/cosmetics/detergents/and even activities). Sometimes that diary will draw a picture of patterns of things we eat, drink, or come in contact with that also might be related to the onset or increase of symptoms.
I send you my very best wishes, and I have said a prayer that you'll find the source of the problem and a speedy resolution. (((hugs)))

@dooBdoo Thank you for your kind and understanding heart. I think maybe there was something the doctor said that's been in the back of my mind. He said his first thought was diabetes or liver problems (don't know how or why that is related to my symptoms as he didn't give any information), and diabetes runs in my family on both my Mother and Father's side. I'm concerned it's something more serious. I hope it isn't but I'll follow through with the meds he gave and see what happens. I am off to bed as I am exhausted and have a horrible headache. I just want to sleep through the night.
Have a peaceful evening all. I'll check back tomorrow.

Hi, @makena. You're welcome. I'm no expert, for sure, but there's sometimes a neuropathic itch associated with diabetes, MS, and other conditions. That might be what he was thinking of. At any rate, please know you have good thoughts and prayers coming across the miles to you from many posters. I wish you peaceful rest.

@makena, FWIW - I am diabetic and I have occasional bouts of severe prolonged itching. Mine are only occasional - couple times a month? My diabetes is under good control, so it's not from way out there numbers.
The itching from diabetes is apparently (according to what I've read) connected to circulation problems diabetics can have. I'll get it in a hand, a lower calf or my ankle/foot (either side). I have it when, even if I'm not aware of it, my circulation in that area has been compromised - waking in the morning when my hand has been under my body, my foot after I've removed a shoe - things like that. I've never had it "all over," and it doesn't last more than 1-2 hrs. Steroids have little to no effect on the itching. I just scratch, use steroid cream that doesn't work, and do a lot of teeth-gritting. It's usually gone in 1-2 hrs but I haven't found anything OTC that "works on" it.
Diabetics can have very dry skin, and there are super-moisturizers advertised to diabetics. I think Gold Bond makes one. Dry skin can definitely cause itching.
The basic blood tests for kidney function and blood sugar in routine labs would point the doctor in the direction of diabetes, kidney or liver, or away from it if values are normal.
