The first 2 weeks my son was here and he was great companion & help to me!
Now to answer your ?s -- I live in a one story villa house.
I am able to do anything but I will say the boot is heavy and cumbersome. I food shopped (I'm alone) before he left so I stocked up. My friends have been great if I needed anything or ride to drs (which is every week).
I don't know about doing steps or how your balance is. I know I'm counting the days til I don't have to wear it because it does throw my balance off a bit mainly because it's bigger than a shoe, of course.
I couldn't shower the first couple of days but I bought a boot style shower leg cover that worked perfectly since I didn't need to wear the boot while showering or sleeping.
I do my own housecleaning and I've been fine. The boot has only impacted that I can't drive until my foot is healed. I hope this helps.

@homedecor1 Thank you so much for your reply. I don't have anybody who could help me post surgery so I'd have to hire an outside caregiver.
Now that I know how you've managed post-surgery I will be able to make a much more informed decision about whether the surgery is worth it for me, or not.
Many thanks, again!
