@151949  I don't believe that Premarin is bioidentical.

Where did I say it was?

@151949  Don't get defensive.  I thought you may have thought it was because of the way you worded your post.

BTW Sorry you got BC.  Hope you are fine now.

@tends2dogs. Premarin is not bioidentical. Furthermore, the link to cancer scare was a flawed study. Women with ovaries MUST take progesterone if they take hrt estrogen to protect you from cancer. That was the problem. Premarin was widely prescribed and 1) it is synthetic and 2) progesterone was not given with it to those with ovaries. There are some slight risks with hrt, but there are also benefits. It reduces risks of some cancers and protects the heart. This of course in those with no risk factors.

Please everyone, read up on the latest information.

@Reba055  I know that it synthetic.  I have done a lot of reading on this subject.  I took BIH for over ten years.  It was a Godsend.  I took the lowest dose possible.  My PA sent me for frequent vaginal ultrasounds to keep an eye on endometrial thickness.  I had a couple episodes of bleeding because the estriol caused a fibroid that I have to bleed.  Finally, I felt it wasn't worth it so I went off about a year ago.  I have noticed no difference except "dryness".  I am 63 and I began taking it around 50 years old.

Also, I no longer have mammograms, but thermograms.  Everyone has to make a decision based on their own research and discussions with their doctor.

@tends2dogs  I should have separated my comments. I just replied that it was not bioidentical because you said "I don't believe that Premarin is bioidentical".

The other comments were in response to other replies.

And yet another thread stated Premarin is made from horses urine. Yes, that is true as well, which is upsetting to people for obvious reasons.

Premarin is not really prescribed that much anymore. At least until others (bioidentical) have been tried, or unless you have been on Premarin for years and years.

Pregnant mare urine, thus the brand name.

I was on HRT for eight years. Never fully embraced the idea of taking hormones for the rest of my life. I took myself off of them against my doctors wishes.

About a year later, the medical profession came out and said that HRT is not for everyone. I have always questioned any medication or procedure that my physician says is a magic bullet.

IMO, too many doctors get perks from big pharma to be completely objective.
