Thank you @conlt He sure did. he went to a professional thank goodness and several years later passed it on to me.
I hope people read my post. It's quite simple. I didn't think I would get sick overnight thaat turned into a nightmare costing millions to save my life but I had good insurance and I have to say they saved it. private room all the way.
I had only had been on medicaire for a few years and am grateful I had the advice.
PS. On plan "N" it's good but you have copay's for everything.
On plan "G" you pay the monthly premium and everything else is free. I can go to the emergency room any time I want for nothing. My friend is on plan "N" and I think it's $50.00.
If you go to alot of doctors plan "G" is more cost effective. I'm still more comfortable with "G". I can go to the best hospital's USA has to offer. I checked.
Yes, you can also on Plan "N" but it's the copay's for everything.
I just wanted a monthly premium that they take out of the bsank and I pay nothing else when I go to a doctor other than that yearly "deductible".

@Pink123 that's not true about copays for everything with Plan N.
There are instances when there is no copay at all and many times what is actually owed is less than the actual $20 copay.
We have Plan N and it was $800 a year cheaper than Plan G. At $20 a visit that's 40 visits a year before you start to lose money.

I'm on the N plan, and though I have co-pays (not for everything), the monthly fee is less than Plan G. The co-pays I do have are minimal. I didn't see the need for us at this point to go for the G plan, but it is definitely top tier for sure.

Yes, exactly. What she said.

I talked to a SHIP couselor for my state because I'm starting to look at this. I would get the G high deductible for $40/month. There is a $2700 deductible but I could cover that if needed. She told me that Mediare A covered all but 20% of medical (didn't know that) so it would take a long time to get to the deductible. I thought I had to pay for everything until I got to $2700. Full disclosure: I really only use preventative care and no prescriptions right now.
Also, she said all these supplements do is pay the bills -- no evaluating claims, etc. so the least expensive option is fine.
Just wanted to mention this because I didn't see any comments about the high deductible option.

@Tadaki - uh....Part A covers inpatient hospitalization, skilled nursing facilities, hospice care, lab tests and surgery. It does not "cover all but 20% of medical".

Can you tell I'm new to this? I guess I misunderstood. I'll keep working on it.

@Tadaki Gidgetgh is correct. Part A pays for 80% of hospitalization. I have had patients who's hospital bills are in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Imagine paying even $20,000 for a $100,000 hospital bill. You definitely need a supplement.
The high deductible plan may be fine, it was not my choice. I am on G.
Part B pays for doctors visits, medical equipment at 80% with the supplement picking up the remainder of the costs.
When you are planning your Medicare coverage, it can be confusing but you have to plan for changes that happen as we age. Age is the biggest risk factor for disease, things happen. Look at what your income will be and what you can afford. Many unsuspecting people end up with complicated diseases, needing surgery and rehabilitation, the bills can quickly build up.
Some people are on very expensive medications, some of the biological for cancer treatments cost $12,000 per month or more. So look closely at the prescription drug plans too.
Because of having many choices, signing up for Medicare is a complicated world, even for me with some practical knowledge of how it works. My advice, do not go on an advantage plan if you can avoid it, Stay on Medicare and a supplement with a prescription plan. You can change prescription plans yearly to 1 that meets your needs.

@conlt I rarely toot my own horn over anything in my life, but I did a great job with a Medicare signup. Maybe because my husband was already on it. Maybe because I just thought clearly about it. I don't know.
I knew I didn't want an advantage olan. I called the company that my husband's employer used for retirees. I told them I wanted plan G, picked the company immediately and then picked a drug plan, quick and painless.
I belong to a large Medicare group on Facebook. It is amazing to me to read all the confusion and mis information people have. The number of people whose main concern, their very main concern, is does it include silver sneakers. Others will say I just signed up how soon can I change? So much angst they create for themselves. So much wavering.
I signed up for G, am thankful that the premiums in my area have been low so far. Only change I have made is to the prescription plan after the first year. Changed to a better one (for me) and that was that. I can't imagine picking a health care plan and immediately thinking you're going to change it. And changing from an advantage plan to a supplement, in most states, requires underwriting.
And, in that group, I read about the number of people who have A and B and are going with no supplement. I don't think they grasp that 20% with no cap, will be their responsibility. They say "I'm healthy". They don't get that health can change in an instant.
I wanted the fullest coverage with the least amount of financial exposure for me. And that was G.

@Tadaki Supplement plans do not cover drugs.
You need either a Part D plan or an Advantage plan that includes drug coverage.
JMO, you need to speak to a different SHIP counseler.
