I've been seeing a lot about it. I'm not ready to buy but I'm looking into it.

Diabetic Retinopathy is eye damage.

Neuropathy is nerve damage.

thanks everyone, i did mean neuropathy. I have also heard about the "grounding" that you do by going out side barefoot. I saw a blurb about grounding mats and was curious and i know this group have a wide range of knowledge.

Not rushing out to buy anything just researching for hubs. Thanks all!

If you think it'll help, it might, but the science (or lack thereof) is pretty sketchy. Bear in mind, nearly everything in your house is already grounded so if you touch the metal parts of a desktop computer case, refrigerator, stove, microwave, etc, you're grounding yourself. Pretty much any appliance that's plugged in and has a metal case/frame is grounded.

Electrical charges tend to balance out. That's why you get static shocks on occasion. That's your body's electrical charge balancing out with whatever you're touching. You gain or lose electrons to get into balance with whatever you're in contact with. You don't need prolonged contact as electricity tends to move rather quickly.

This is one of those, "If you think it'll help, it might" things to me. The science is more than a little sketchy. The good news is it won't hurt anything. I wouldn't recommend using one in a thunderstorm though as lightning tries to find the easiest path from the ground to the charged clouds and you don't want to be that path. The less grounded you are in a thunderstorm, the better.

Re: Grounding Mats?

[ Edited ]

If you search "NIH grounding benefits", you'll find several articles and studies on the National Institute of Health's website.

While YMMV, the science is sound.

I have the sheet & I think it helps with sleep & chronic pain.

Never heard of grounding mats, had to look it up.  If this was so wonderful why haven't we heard more about it?  I am pretty skeptical by nature so I am just thinking out loud. My initial reaction is that it is a hoax.

There are a lot of wonderful things we don't hear about but that doesn't mean they're a hoax or don't exist. The avaliable cures for cancer is just one example.

Doctor's don't want us to know about these things you can buy to help yourself. They rather you pay for an office visit etc???

@Nightowlz They don't know about these things or have never taken the time to learn about anything out of the box except for standard of care.  They will never deviate from the protocol set forth by Big Pharma and the insurance companies.  Most would never think to do something creative as far as care.  You have to search for that if you want something different.

My feet don't like me walking around barefoot anymore.  And outside would be even worse since you never know what's hiding in the grass/dirt/sand.  Whatever the reason, that area where the toes meet the foot have a sharp pain when walking barefoot.  Funny, I can wear heels though.
