Re: Getting the vaccination

[ Edited ]

I saw on the news where a Wisconsin pharmacist was arrested for deliberately destroying more than 500 doses of Moderna vaccines. He allegedly left them out of cold storage on purpose. Several patients may have received compromised vaccines. He is facing felony charges. No motive has been determined yet. What the #@$%!

Another thing which happened recently was 44 people mistakenly got antibody injections instead of the covid vaccine.

At the rate this vaccination business is going it will take years, maybe close to a decade, to get everyone vaccinated. There needs to be mass injection sites planned by local officials. Football stadiums, empty malls and other large retail space should be used for that purpose...mass injection sites...the likes of which we have never seen before.  It doesn't appear that we're ready for that and it needs to be done quickly. This virus is mutating into something more infectious and that means more trouble.

The roll out has been so slow that now health officials are considering administering half-doses of the (Moderna) vaccine in order to speed up the process. The final decision will be left in the hands of the FDA on whether or not this will go forth.

I am in southern WV, and the local health department is holding a drive thru clinic for those 80+ today.   News at noon showed a picture of the lines of traffic trying to get into the parking lot and essentially that stretch of road is inaccessible right now.   I sincerely doubt everyone who has turned out will be vaccinated today, altho the number of vaccines available was not mentioned in advance.

@SilleeMee,

The Health Dept. in Boone County, WV was the site where the over 80 group received Covid antibody injections.  I hope someone is held accountable for that mistake; no, it's not a fatal mistake, and those people should be fine, but it is a critical medication error, and reveals either a process or personnel error, or both!   Too many times over the last 9 months have I said that Covid is giving many people the excuse to do half-*&$#% work.   Errors like this are not acceptable.

@RedTop

I wonder what the picture will look like when the general population will be eligible for vaccinations?! The image I have is not a good one.

I called Walgreen's yesterday.  A "recording" answered the phone and said something like:  We do not have the vaccine and will not be making appointments or making lists of names to get the vaccine.  Thank you.  Goodbye.   (Short and sweet)

I called my doctor's office and they told me none of them had been able to get vaccinated yet.

What's going on?

One reason that some health care personnel have not been able to get vaccinated is based on where they work and what type of patient they are supporting.  My friends who are Critical care nurses in a large hospital near me were able to get the Pfizer vaccine a few days after it was available.  My brother in law who is a Dr (radiologist) ina  different city but a smaller not major hospital has to wait for the Moderna to be available for him.  He doesn't see patients anyway so his need isn't as great as others.

Each state is using a different plan.  I'm amazed that some are even offering the ability for people to drive through to get it.  Seems like such a mess just like Covid testing.

How are people who receive the vaccine in a "drive thru" situation being monitored after the injection?

@noodleann

Yes. I saw on the news where the people who just got their shot in a drive-thru have to wait a while, in a designated parking lot, before they are allowed to drive away.

If one million people per day get vaccinated, it will take almost one year to get everyone vaccinated. We're not even close to that rate of giving the shots.

@noodleann @SilleeMee @@In Broward County, Florida 3 large parks are designated for drive thru. After, people park and wait 15 minutes. There is a medical facility bus on site.

You must have an appointment , made online, and fill out and print paper work. Site has crashed many times! People with appointments were turned away after waiting as they ran out.This is for 65+ Only. My friend just called that she has an appointment for Saturday. She lives in Miami. No drive thru there.

Every county doing their own thing. My hygienist DIL and my 90 year old aunt do not have vaccine yet. They should  have been first. CVS and Walgreens are supposed to be going to nursing homes. Not happening here yet.

Can not believe that no one had an organized plan.....85+ first, then 75+ , then 65. Or, A-D names call on Monday, E-G Tuesday, etc. so phone lines and online would not crash.

Hope they figure this out before general public.

I have been reading that up to 60% of eligible medical workers are refusing to get the vaccine in some areas,especially in California and Ohio and many are doctors.

I am not in a hurry to get a vaccine that has so many front line medical care workers are declining.
