I understand that the elderly are no longer on the list of people who are up near the front behind grocery store clerks, etc.

Hummm???

If you are in the USA, it totally depends on your state and maybe even your county government who gets in line first, secon, third, fourth, etc. In some states, hospital staff who work directly with covid patients are first, then first responders and teachers, then it will be the elderly and those in group/community living arrangements. In other states, those over age 75 are not a priority so much. My state government sent out a sternly written letter on Thursday telling the county governments to use their vaccine supply and not lag behind because the state can tell they aren't giving out the vaccines. Apparently, some county governments aren't going full speed ahead and rather "stock piling" the vaccines.

TEXAS.  These vaccines have a finite storage time!!

@Justice4all :  Those 75 and over are supposed to be 1b priority.  What I haven't seen is what priority those who are younger but have other health issues.  My DH is 70 but has multiple chronic health issues.  I'm 77 with no issues; imho he should get vaccine before me.

I'm losing hope that I'll ever be on the list to get the vaccination.  Every state makes their own rules.  Our gov just annouced that prison populations - including all employees and prisoners - should go next, right after health care personnal.  Problem is, health care personnel are not getting vaccinated because politicians and business leaders are jumping the line.  And now some of the decision-makers are saying that those in nursing homes and over the age of 65 should get it last.  Some have said they believe that young, healthy people should get the vaccine first because they have long productive lives ahead of them.  One newspaper opinion stated that the vaccine shouldn't go to seniors because they are old and will die soon anyway.

Meanwhile, vaccine doses are sitting in storage and no one is getting them.

Happy New Year, everyone.

It would be so helpful if posters would identify their states on all threads where there are differences between locales. This is particularly true with pandemic threads.

@patbz, get yourselves signed up in a few places.  Those with underlying conditions will have priority.

I heard on the news that fewer than 2 million vaccines have been administered so far. “They” had said 20 million would be given by the end of the year. What made anyone think they could get 20 million? It sounds like a number pulled out of thin air.

There isn’t any nationwide plan involved other than dumping responsibility on states and letting each one do whatever they want. That kind of plan has worked sooo well thus far during the pandemic...

My DB is a physician.  He is scheduled to get the vaccine on Saturday.  His wife,  nurse, is scheduled for some time in January.   Can't wait until DH and I can get ours.
