I did get the Moderna vaccine on Wednesday, the 23rd. Had a sore arm - just like a flu shot - but no other worrisome symptoms. I was able to work yesterday with no problem.
Scheduled for the 2nd shot in Jan.
Happy Holidays to all!

Hummm???
Not sure whether you or I are more "elderly", but as of about a week ago I wound up being bumped up a notch, into 1b.
As far as I have heard since the beginning of the murky, lacking in structure, who's on 1st distribution process, the first group (1a) was always for "residential care" patients and healthcare workers, and as of what I think was the last CDC meeting, elderly of age 75 up are in group 1b.
It sounds as though "autoimmune", at least as far as the classification system is concerned, doesn't necessarily mean"immunocompromised". Or does it?
From the VERY BEGINNING I've hoped and wished that some CENTRAL SPECIFIC ORGANIZATIONAL PROCESS had been developed and revealed, so that everyone in this country could understand "the big picture". Adjustments published as they occurred and in comprehensible language. Not yet but maybe in 2021.

The federal government has little power over the citizens in these matters, unless martial law is declared. Best they can do is get the information and vaccine to the states. It is up to them from there.

We will be in the Phase1-B group. Phase 1-A is nursing home residents and staff, other healthcare workers and first responders. 1-A is about to begin, then 1-B.Am so grateful these governors recognize the need for the 1-B group instead of putting us months down the list. They recognize that seniors who die from COVID are not all nursing home residents.
I’m in Florida and heard that on the news last night. Never mind what all of the experts say. Keep making bad decisions. Go Florida.

I'm anxious to get the vaccine. I am 63 with no underlying health issues. I certainly want to wait my turn but it worries me when I hear that every one should be able to have one by June. I was hoping I would get one sooner. My 93 year old mother is in the hospital with Covid and will go to a nursing home. Kills me but it's best for her care. I hope to be able to see her soon. She's in quarantine now and we can't visit. You never know when it could be the last time you see someone you love.

I understand your disappointment, but what services do you provide to the general public that should put you in front of those who serve to provide us with what we need to live safely. Keeping esstential workers healthy, helps keep all of us healthy. They're the ones we come in contact with when we need to venture out of our homes. Grocery clerks provide us with the food we need and the delivery people bring that food to our homes making our risk of infection much less. This is a worldwide problem and we need to step out of our own little bubble and do what is best for everyone. We are all in this together like it or not.

I'm starting to think that the people who are prioritizing the vaccines should rethink the protocol. Certainly it's right that institutionalized people (nursing homes, prisons) who cannot leave their facilities should be protected, as well as the employees of those places. The health-care professionals who are delivering services in association with COVID come with them, along with employees who have customer contact in essential services, including retail.
But I think the next group should not be people who are simply inconvenienced by the presence of COVID, but the rest of the workers who lack financial support outside of unemployment benefits and similar subsidies. Workers keep the economy afloat, and they're the people we must have willing and able to keep working or return to work or get retrained for new fields. They fill the coffers of the Treasury and pay SS. That means under-65 people.
Those of us who are living on retirement benefits, and I count myself among them, should be the last to get the vaccine. We need to continue the safe-at-home protocols and let others get protected and restart the economy. I have MS and diabetes and so I might qualify for a vaccine sooner than an unimpaired person of the same age, but IMO, I don't have the right to be protected aead of the workers.
It's an easier call for me because I don't want an experimental vaccine and am willing to wait for a product that's been properly tested, possibly the single-dose J&J that's in the wings. But I still think that we have to look at this sensibly, for the good of the country and the economy, and take a back seat to the people we're counting on to take us to New Normal. The workers.

I'm walking in the same shoes as you are @KCDiva. My LO is 92, and is now in her second (?) infection of Covid, following an interim infection of c. Diff.
I will do ANYTHING to get to her, and I'm frantic that s some power hitter will climb past me and get MY SHOT.

The vaccines - none of them - have the magical power of protection that so many seem to be assuming they have. Getting the vaccine isn’t going to make it safe to go about business like we used to. It won’t make it safe to go anywhere there are lots of people.
In about 2-3 months people are going to be acting shocked and angry that the magic vaccine didn’t give them their old lives back.
