@hckynut I'm still driving a muscle car with a V8 and a 6-speed. I intend to be buried in it.........

No and no! I had no idea what it was all about and the reality of it. I figured it would be about the same as being younger, only your skin and body wouldn't look as good and you would slow down a bit. Didn't think all the health issues would crop up, every single aspect of your face and body would change. Didn't think the tiredness would happen. Things you just took for granted about your appearance and your health --- now I wish I had appreciated all of that more!

I was aging "gracefully" until my "mild-moderate" Covid infection.
Now, 6 months out, my life is still a mess.
So if you are old, like me, do EVERYTHING you can do to protect yourself from this disease. Whether it's vaccination, masking, wearing a big smile, avoiding crowds, WHATEVER.
DON'T GET COVID. It's the new "Picture of Dorian Gray"!

There are no prizes for living to a very old age. My parents lived to 100, but the last 10 years weren't good ones. Medical science has extended our lifespans but not our quality of life. The plastic surgeons can work on your surface, but they cannot halt your aging body parts, not yet anyway. Best to live a shorter, but active healthy life, than to live into the years when either/both mind and body fail. Just curious.....do any of you know someone who is 90+ and is still of sharp mind, sharp senses, independent and getting out and about like they always did? I personally do not.

@CJC My next door neighbor is 95 y/o (96 in September) and up until last week was living by herself with a caregiver visiting her twice a week. She is VERY strong willed and has been her entire life.
Unfortunately, she fell in her kitchen last week and broke her hip. Now in rehab and doing great! Hopes to return home soon. She is truly amazing!
Although she is sharp as a tack, she has difficulty hearing and her eyesight is poor. What she speaks of most is how lonely she is. (The caregiver is really just someone to visit with her.)
Watching her makes me appreciate my stage of life and good health.
Buy the jewelry, eat the dessert, try not to worry about things we can't control. ![]()

In spite of the things I mentioned in my previous post, I do not have an aging mindset and still workout fairly heavy daily and once I rock myself up I do feel good. One thing I know I will never give in to aging. I may have to regroup and modify some things but mentally still feel young!

I’m 68, what would probably be considered the younger side of aging. So far so good; however, I did start to have trouble getting up from a crouching position. Just recently I started doing one-legged squats which has helped. I realized it the other day when I got up from a squatting position without thinking about it.
Just a tip that worked for me. I watched videos on one-legged squats and the person sat down on a bench (can use a chair or sofa) using only one leg, arms out straight. You can modify it by using a walking stick or adding height to the chair/bench. I used my bed which is higher than a chair or couch and it worked perfectly for me.

Always thought $ would be a problem, it isn't. My physical health and dh mental health is problematic.
Now that we could afford to travel, buy a house etc. we can't.
I am extremely grateful for my kids and grandchildren,
my wonderful marriage of 45 years, the ability to read,
watch movies etc. My mind has never been better.
Good topic thanks for posting.

I'm 77 and, aside from not having the energy I once had, everything is A-OK! Even have all my original equipment, all in good operating order ( joints, teeth etc) and no arthritis. That said, DH (7 years younger) has had chronic health issues for last 30 years and lately isn't as mentally sharp; I really worry about what his near term future holds. Covid times has been another cross to bear ( no one I know has had it) because it limits our ability to do the things we love ( especially international travel).

I really didn't have any expectations.
Getting old sure beats the alternative!
So far - so good.
