That would be wonderful if they can help treat those diseases.

I have watched a few documentaries and read that these drugs are also being used to treat various compulsive type diseases such as alcoholism, compulsive gambling, smoking, drug addiction, and compulsive eating.   They said these drugs go to a part of the brain that curtails these symptoms.  They can't explain why they work, they just do.

This is why it was originally released for diabetic patients.  It controlled their eating, thus causing blood sugar levels to go down.

Wow, I am interested in this data. I will say, I have been on Mounjaro for a year and 1/2 for Diabetes and it certainly does take my food cravings away.

I hope more people can benefit from these drugs.

And what are the results?  Slow it, stop it, reverse it?

Was this prescribed for a diabetic that also had Parkinsons and or Alzheimers and it helped with that?

Really not enough information in the original post to get excited over.

I think it's great when a drug is beneficial for multiple health issues.  Both of my daughters are benefitting from these types of dual purpose medications which translates to their health insurance not wanting to cover the cost, since my daughters don't have the main conditions the med is typically prescribed for.  I am well versed in writing letters to insurance companies to fight for a claim review and approval for coverage.

I expect quite a few people will be doing the same with the GLP-1 medications.

It would be nice if the cost associated with this class of medication would come down. It usually happens when generics emerge. Not sure the status on that at this point.

@CelticCrafter

The Nature website on this iopic is too complicated to put on a post.  It's best to google it to get the best benefit from the study.

@granddi  This post is severely lacking in detail and it is being presented as though GLP-1 will "treat" Alzheimers and Parkinson's.

Please refrain from posting such a watered down version because it leads to unrealistic expectations.
