I went to the doctors last week and asked was there something for arthritis. He reccomended fish oil. I thought maybe some other kind of pill. I wake up in the morning and can hardly walk due to pain; plus sitting due to pain when I get up and walk.  Ever hear of it helping. Or is there something that helps you?

You probably need to be evaluated by a rheumatologist,  an arthritis specialist.  After he examines you, he can make recommendations for treatment.  It's not as simple as taking a fish oil capsule.

Doctors recommend fish oil in general and especially for those who complain of arthritis pain and have high cholesterol. I agree with Kachina624 about seeing a rheumatologist, but in the mean time get yourself some wild caught salmon and eat it 3 times a week at least. I find when I eat my salmon I have very little arthritis pain. Also, lay off the sugar.

I think this thread will get many posts regarding what helps with arthritis pain. For me, first and foremost  a diet low in fat and sugars has helped me most of all.  I take standardized turmeric and an all-in-one multi-omega supplement which has all of the important omegas. I also advocate taking vitamin C. Imo, vitamin C has been vastly over-looked as an important constituent in maintaining good joint health as well as pain management.

I take Lessman's Omega 3's as I have osteoarthritis in one knee. It can take a few weeks to measure any effectiveness. Take it at night for morning stiffness. While it's not a miracle I find I take less ibuprofen.  And yes, both recommended by my dr.

There are 3 types of arthritis. RA is an auto immune disorder which attacks joints. Osteo which is wear & tear and bacterial which is diagnosed by examining joint fluid.

ETA: be careful with Omega 6's. Some studies show it can actually increase inflammation. Some promising research on Omega 7's, too.

I was diagnosed back around 2012 ...

My doctor sent me to physcal therapy for a couple of months (twice a week/two months).

Afterward, the PT gave me a routine of exercises that I do twice a day and try to get out and walk a bit each day. I soak in a hot bubble bath each morning.  It takes away the stiffness, and I take Tylenol for pain.   That's part is easy.

Tough part is accepting that you just can't too all the stuff you used to do.

There are actually over 100 different forms of arthritis (joint inflammation). I was surprised to find this out. Most common are OA, RA, PsA, fibro and gout.  I have scleroderma arthritis, which is similar to but not the same as RA.

My arthritis is really bad.  I do take fish oil but not for arthritis.  It certainly hasn't helped my arthritis.  I take Tylenol Arthritis 8 hour and ibuprofen.  When I got cortisone shots in my knees recently the doctor prescribed diclofenac.  I don't think it helped anymore than the Tylenol and ibuprofen.  It's cheaper than ibuprofen though, so I will continue taking it instead.  I have taken Mobic, Celebrex and others in the past.  They didn't really help either.  I know Mobic seems to help a lot of people though.

I agree with the other posters that you should see a rheumatologist.  I'm surprised your doctor would suggest fish oil for pain as bad as you have.
