My fingers are hurting at times and feel numb too. I push a grocery cart for 2 hours and then go shopping. I recycle bottles and cans. I have an appointment at the doctors Monday. I don't know if it is circulation. I don't know if I anm explaining this right so he will understand. Aleve doesn't help. I just want to be able for him to understand and help. If I told him this would you understand that is. Or have any of you felt like this?

It makes sense to me, @halfpint1. Your doctor will know the right questions to ask you, so that will help. He might ask you when they hurt the most and when the numbness starts and stops. He might ask if it’s all your fingers or just certain ones.
I hope he gets to the the bottom of it and you get some relief!

I am glad to read you will be seeing your doctor next week. As the previous poster said, your doctor should know what questions to ask.
Truthfully I do find your post confusing. Why are you pushing a grocery cart for 2 hours?

I'm also kind of confused. What does pushing a cart and then going shopping and then recycling bottles have to do with this. I could understand the cart, as you would wrap your hands around the handle, but the other stuff is confusing. I'm sure your doctor will figure it out. I would suggest a rheumatologist.

I wear splints on both hands at night when I sleep due to carpal tunnel in my hands. Without the splints, I wake up with numbness in my fingers and hands. Sometimes I have painful drawing spasms in my fingers and hands. Per doctors orders I have not been able to donate platelets for many months, because the repeated sticks with double needles are presumed to be what pushed my carpal tunnel issue this far. The last time my carpal tunnel flared, I could not hold a pen to write for nearly 10 days. I am not interested in having surgery on my hands right now.
Since you are 80, you most likely have arthritis in multiple areas of your body. My mother has severe arthritis in her fingers, neck, legs and back. Nice hot showers, dressing warmly, a warm house, and Aleve are what works for her. However, she is never without discomfort.
I tried an arthritis medication prior to my first knee surgery. It was an expensive med, so my doctor gave me samples until I could determine whether it would work for me. Even tho I always took the medication after a meal, it made my stomach burn, so I knew it was affecting my stomach lining. Within a few days I knew that med was not for me.
Your doctor will understand what’s going on, and he will be able to offer a few suggestions as to your options for some relief.

All the grocery stores around me will pick your groceries and all you have to do is make an appointment to pick it up. You may even have delivery.
Not sure Aleve will help with numbness.
Be good to yourself.

I may be wrong but I think she pushes the grocery cart to collect recycleables to return and after that goes grocery shopping.

@halfpint1: I have the same thing and it really hurts when I grocery shop, drive alot and vacuum. The doctor took an x-ray and said it's arthritis.
I'm not saying that is your problem, but could be.
I'm glad you are seeing a doctor and I know he'll help you. Keep all of us posted.

That was my first thought too. Turns the recyclables in at the grocery store and uses that money to pay the bill, or a small portion of it anyway. I do wonder though where she's doing all this pushing. Around her neighborhood when people put their recycling bins out for pick-up? Or garbage containers around a shopping center or where the heck?
Halfpint1 if you're reading this can you tell us in what kind of area you're pushing the cart? Somewhere safe I hope. If you are tightly gripping the handle on a grocery cart for 2 hours and doing that several days a week perhaps that's contributing to your problem. Good Luck to you at your doctor appointment.
