WASHINGTON (AP) — A new weight loss device offers a novel approach to cutting calories: draining them from the stomach before they are fully digested.

The AspireAssist system consists of a thin tube implanted in the stomach, connecting to an outside port on the skin of the belly. About 20 minutes after finishing a meal, users connect the port to an external device, which drains some of the recently-consumed food into the toilet.

I think it is rather disgusting....  The over eater learns nothing about portion control and person with an eating disorder will just binge and drain rather than binge and throw up.

I don't think most of what you advocate is crazy or extreme.  The method in this thread, and it is FDA approved? It furthers my beliefs when it comes to that federal office, and that is not a positive thing.

In regards to a low fat, whole foods, plant based diet,

only you, me & a handful of posters stand united

on a very, very small "dietary island" on these boards!  

But that's not going to deter me from continuing to post

what I believe is the healthiest, cheapest & more ethical

way of eating out there!

I have zero faith in the FDA.  I saw this on the news tonight and thought it was revolting.  It won't work.  Obesity is a complex and complicated problem for many people.  This is like putting a bandaid on a leaky dam.

Obesity is such a complex and multi-sided problem that I've usually been able to find positives in most weight loss schemes, since I firmly believe that one size (approach) doesn't fit all.

HOWEVER- I really cannot see any positive benefit to this approach, and it is on a short list of devices medications, ec. that I can honestly say I would never be open to trying.

It really is for all intents and purposes "legal" bulimia. I'll be reading more about it, but I can't imagine learning something about it that would cause me to think differently.

The whole idea of having to do that in a restaurant, someone else's house......or at work................is just repulsive.
