"Patients should continue taking metformin to keep their diabetes
under control. It could be dangerous for patients with this
serious condition to stop taking their metformin without first
talking to their health care professionals."
....because changing their diet & lifestyle is too much work?

While I'm not a diabetic I'm thinking you might die without your meds because metabolic changes don't happen overnight.

I'm not diabetic either but the majority of diabetics are Type 2
which is a food-borne/lifestyle condition.
It can be reversed. Fix the diet/lifestyle...and issues of metformin
or other meds will be eliminated.

Rather than sound uninformed, I thought it diligent to educate you that Type 2 diabetes is not a lifestyle/food issue for all. And a plant based diet may or may not help Type 2 diabetics but the ones it does help it is because any reduction in weight will put them into remission (not cure.) It is the caloric reduction that helps a Type 2 that is hyperinsulinemic. Plants are not magic.
There is a test called a C-Peptide that should be utilized to see just how much insulin a patient is producing. Many Type 2 diabetics upon diagnosis are producing little to none and eating plants will not change that fact. Metformin is used as a tool to achieve better blood glucose utilization.
To say that fixing the diet and lifestyle claiming that meds will be eliminated is FALSE. There is a large segment of the population that this does not work.
As far as Type 1 diabetics, many are using metformin in their treatment plan to help with insulin resistance.
It is good news to read that metformin is still a good drug to lower blood glucose levels and that it is safe.

@Snowpuppy This poster has a history of SHAMING Type 2 diabetics. The inference that someone is sick but they simply don't want to WORK at curing themselves is ignorant and cruel, especially when it is not backed up by anything scientific.
As a Type 1 diabetic for nearly fifty years, I chaired many a Diabetic Support Group meeting and I never met a single diabetic both 1 or 2 that weren't trying exceptionally hard to be well. Shaming people for being sick is disgraceful!

The topic of this thread is the finding of levels of NDMA found in metformin. In other words, it's about the safety of metformin. It is not about lifestyle choices and diets or avoiding diabetes. This is off topic.

Not off topic.
I was offering a solution to remove this unneeded worry
over a medication one could greatly reduce/eliminate.
The stress of questioning the medication one takes can take
a mental toll on a life.
Is it safe?
Is it not safe?
Is it recalled?
How much is it costing me?
There's a solution to remove all these questions to improve one's life.
There is a mountain of science backing up Low Fat Plant Based diet
for Type 2 diabetes.
