Evenity and Silica my confusion

I just confused that @SilleeMee and others mentioned success with Silica supplements improving bone density. Now a second thread mentions Evenity was used to improve bone density?

Are yall using both?

@granddi

I was taking silica long before I got Evenity and I'm still taking silica daily. The silica alone just wasn't enough to significantly improve my bone density but it helped.

ETA-

I have a progressive type AI disease that affects my bone density and it was evident that I needed more than just supplements. The silica did help improve my bone density for a  while but that wasn't enough unfortunately.

Silica, or any other kind of supplement, is no substitution for Rx drugs. Evenity is not your run-of-the-mill type of bone density drug. It is given only once in a lifetime. It's a biologic type of drug which builds bone and prevents bone loss at the same time. Other bone drugs only slow bone loss and they do not build new bone. Only Evenity can build new bone.

Re: Evenity and Silica my confusion

I take only the silica.  At one point my Dr. wanted to put me on Prolia because I was osteopemia, but I refused because my Insurance wouldn't cover it.  He wrote me a prescription for Fosamax which my Insurance would cover, but I never took it.  At my last Dexa, I was told my bones were good.

I will say, the tech who did my scan looked back and told me that the osteopenia diagnosis was NOT due to my hips which is usually what they base that on.  However, there was still some improvement.

What type of AI do you have? I have Lupus RA, plus several more.

@WVRhyter

I have scleroderma which has affected my internal organs (heart, lungs, kidneys), bones, teeth, hair, skin and nails. Anything involving collagen, which is almost everything in/on the body, has been damaged.

My niece has that too. She's only 30.
