A recall of the emergency anti-allergy medicine EpiPen is expanding to the U.S. and other markets in North America, Europe, Asia and South America because the allergy shots may not work.
The notice issued Friday by Mylan N.V. expands upon warnings made earlier this month after two reports of the device failing.
The new announcement comes a week after Mylan said it had recalled about 81,000 EpiPen devices in countries outside the US.
The original memo was due to two reports of the company's allergy treatment failing to work in emergencies.
The products can be replaced at no charge by calling 877-650-3494 or emailing customer.service@mylan.com.

Thank you for your post. I forwarded the article on to my daughter since she keeps epipens on hand for my granddaughter (nut allergies).

OMG - they charge a mortgage payment for these pens now and they don't even work. Shame shame shame.

@151949Actually, all I know is that twice they haven't worked. What's the percentage here? 2 out oif how many? Do we know why the pens failed? Whether they were used correctly, etc. I'm not even sure there's any shame here.
I'm not reading huge reports to find out because I have no need for an epi pen, but I also know absolutely nothing at all is ever 100% effective in medicine, not ever. No drug, no doctor, no nurse. Doesn't happen.
So, for me, the real question is whether the epi pen is better than anything else that's available, not is it perfect. I'd have died long ago if I had to depend only on meds that were 100% effective and/or safe!

The fact that the manufacturer is concerned enough to recall the product is enough for me.
Regardless of how many cases, I wouldn't want one of my loved ones to be one of those cases. Or anyone else for that matter.
ETA: The "shame" is that this maufacturer jacked the price of these Epi pens up 1100% not long ago.
