I respect procedures such as colonoscopy and endoscopy.    I need antibiotics with them due to my hip replacement.    And propofol is not supposed to be administered outside of a hospital.    If I get anesthesia, I want an anesthesiologist not a nurse giving it to me.    Remember Joan Rivers.

I have Medicare Advantage but I priced all options last Fall when I was making a plan decision.    All options called for the extra costs added to it.    No plan covered the entire procedure (either one).    I feel totally victimized by this administration's targeting on cutting Medicare to pay for ACA.

My past colonoscopy was easy and I was able to drive home myself.    I have to rely on driving myself as I have no other options here.

@NYwoman

I have had all of my Endo's and Colonoscopies done in a hospital. Some as an in-patient some as an outpatient. My Gastro doctors will not do either of these procedures on a patient that is on Comadin/Plavix or any other Blood thinner, anywhere but a hospital.

They also will not do either for someone like myself, which was on both Plavix and Coumadin without me being off those meds for a minimum of 10 days.

Versed and Fentynol do not require having an Anethesiologist. If you choose to pay for one? That is up to you.

Yes. I do remember Joan Rivers. I also remember John Ritter. Anyone else you want to bring up? From what I have read, Joan Rivers was a high risk patient that made the wrong choice, as did her doctor(s) by doing the Endo there.

As i've said, I have had and Endo every year going back to when I was having them every 6 months, all on Medicate. (Edited because of my mistake),should read as Medicare. My costs have not changed in spite of the ACA, or went down because of it.

You say your Endo went up, I say my many Endo's cost has remained the same, all done with Medicare as my provider.

No reason for me to say more, so I won't.

Medicare has been cut in many ways.    For example, my first colonoscopy, it was COMPLETELY paid for.   Now, with cuts to doctor's fees, they make it up by charging for the anesthiologist, rental (facility fees), etc. specialty fees,  It could add up to a few hundred extra dollars, which they refuse to give the fees before the procedure.    I have no familial history of colon problems and my first test was 100% clean.   I have swallowing  problems and need an endoscopy.   That is 2X a $45 specialist fee, anesiology fee, rental fee, fees for biopsies, if taken, and all are not disclosed beforehand.   These add up and no Cancer org will help with this test.   I cannot afford the hundreds of dollars of fees to have these tests done.    This is how seniors are mistreated with Medicare cuts.   I have talked to Medicare and to the doctors involved (their billing departments).

Please don't mix Medicare with Medicaid.    I could say something not PC........

Medicare pays for colonoscopy and EGDs as an outpatient.  I don't know who told you they do not.  You need to check with your endoscopist and if he/she tells you no, find someone else.

I get propofol at the surgical center for outpatient surgery and at my oral surgeon's office when I have dental extractions and implants.

Actually, I think you may have just selected the wrong plan. Next year, re-evaluate the Medicare supplement .... not the Medicare Advantage.  The Advantage can seem cheaper but, oftentimes,   there's more out of pocket costs down the road.

The only time I have had Propofol used on me was for the 5 Double Balloon Enteroscopies I have had done in regards to my bleeding Right Colon. An Anesthesiologist was necessary as these are long procedures. My first one lasted over 4 hours.

I am assuming there was an Anesthesiologist present during all of these procedures. Michael Jackson made it very clear what can happen when Propofol is used by someone other than an Anesthesiologist.

Given a choice I always choose watching any procedure I have done to my body. Watched both of my Stent Angioplasty's after both of my heart attack. Also watched my friend, a Spinal Surgeon remove my ruptured L-3 Lumbar disc back surgical procedure. All on Monitors of course.

Re: Endoscopy done- please calm me

So, when Medicare was stated before, it was meant as Medicare with a Supplement.    I can understand how that combination can pay for the entire procedures.    Supplements are expensive here and I cannot afford them right now.
