Anyone ever have one? Does it hurt? The doctor and nurse said it wasn't pleasant but refused to expand. I need to know what I have to face.

Electromyography (EMG) is a diagnostic procedure to assess the health of muscles and the nerve cells that control them (motor neurons). EMG results can reveal nerve dysfunction, muscle dysfunction or problems with nerve-to-muscle signal transmission.

@rms1954 I had both the invasive and needle one and found neither unpleasant. It seems to depend on how each individual reacts to procedures - positive or negative.
Before I had my first root canal everyone was saying how horrible they were but I found them to be no big deal.
I would suggest not going into the test thinking it will be awful.

Never had an EMG. I have had many tests/procedures that some painted as going through a horror chamber. I subsequently found some of them to be painless.
Like most procedures, each person has their own unique experience. Seems like many feel the need to embellish their experiences. Why? Beats the he!! out of me!
Like someone else mentioned, root canals were worse that having you tongue cut off. All I found from many was a sore jaw from being propped open so far, for so long.
Hopefully this goes well for you, but mainly gives the answers to what this test seeks to find out. Myself personally! Every procedure I have had, which is many, my focus is on getting answers, not how the procedure is done, or what discomfort I may feel.
My best to you,

For me, the pain or sensation varied from needle to needle and some were worse then others, but all were over pretty quickly. I will say that the test gave me a relief from my neuropathic pain that my medication didn't and it lasted for a day or so.

I have had it done. The needles are inserted around the suspect area with electricity of a certain level sent through the needles to see how the nerves in that area respond. I tolerate things well. It isn't pleasant but it isn't very painful but that may also be dependent upon the nerves being checked out.

I had one a couple a months ago , i certainly didn't enjoy it , but it really is just how sensitive you are , i think it is good they warned you , but nothing to be afraid of in my opinion. And my neurologist was good about telling me when the next shock would be and what to expect and if i was doing okay.
