When my sister and my dad were in the room with the doctor, the other woman had obviously been brought to the room next to them, and one of the dogs started barking.  The doctor commented that that was a first, he'd never had a dog in his office before.

Was this woman asked to provide proof that these dogs were actually therapy dogs?!

@nana59  No, she said the receptionist didn't seem to know what to say.  I somehow find it doubtful that they were true therapy dogs though.

If there was no proof that they were therapy dogs....and who needs TWO.....then they don't belong is a doctor's office....this take your pet wherever you want has gotten out of control.....

I've lived 57 years on Earth & never seen a dog in a doctor's office.
Weird we have 2 instances in 3 months.
But then again....we have a solar eclipse coming, so....

@sidsmom Yes same here. I would probably like going to the doctor more if I thought there would be dogs there. Sadly only sick people, nurses, salespeople and doctors have been at doctors offices I've been to.

I'd rather go to a dog for my medical care than some doctors I've seen.

I used to work in an office where the business owner brought in her dogs every day.  3 of them.  And a guy worked there who brought his dog in, too.

I loved working there because of the dogs.

@Day1128

Now that's my kind of doctor. She asked, and a patient can refuse. I have had some very sick days, but they did/do not change who I am, doctor or plumber. If they ask, they get an honest answer. I have no interest in how my answer effects the one asking the question.

That is quite strange.  Some people are allergic to dogs.  Next time, your friend should bring her dog or yours and don't bother asking.  The nerve of the dr.  You were not at the vets.  HeartCat Very Happy

@Katcat1

Now that's a stretch! Building codes/permits, a lease. Domestic animals, the ones you love, are not welcome everywhere. I'm sure the doctor followed all rules and regulations before bringing her dog to her office.

Souuds a bit like a retaliation to me, and for what, a question to 1 of her patients? Seldom disagree with you, but! As a pet lover I know their unseen physical and mental capabilities when it comes to those that are ill. Our furry kids sure helped both my wife and I through some very tough medical times.

@NickNack

While I have seen dogs in hospitals, even brought one of our foster Boxers to see my wife,  after her stroke. I have never seen one in any of my doctor's offices.

I too love all pets, but would not make any assumptions about other patients visiting at the same time. Some are allergic, and all humans are not pet lovers, unfortunately. To me, for any doctor that could be a, "dam if you do, dam if you don't" choice to make.

@nana59@  @Nicknack  Therapy dogs are the ones that visit patients in hospitals and nursing homes.  What do you suppose this woman was doing with them at her medical appointment?

Obviously she didn't want to leave the dogs home alone....and felt she was entitled to bring them anywhere she wanted.....i'm really tired of this mindset......when did having your pet attached to your hip become acceptable.....maybe, just maybe, other people may not be as comfortable with having to deal with dogs being in a professional environment.....

I'm allergic to dogs too and cats so bad the last cat I had gave me an asthma attack that almost killed me. I was in a coma for 2 weeks from an asthma attack. The cat slept on my pillow the cats dander was all over my house. I can handle being around animals for a short time. I have 4 dogs I take meds to help my allergies. I could not imagine my life without my dogs. I've build up a resistance to my own dogs but if I'm at someone elses home for a long period of time and they have cats or dogs my allergies will act up and I will have trouble breathing. Being around a cat or a dog for a few minutes does not usually do it. We even have a stray cat that adopted us as a kitten. I can pick him up pet him and have no issues. He just can't come inside. Funny thing is speaking of allergies I once went to the doctor when I was a child they had just cleaned the room because someone was sick. They sprayed something that sent me into an asthma attack and they had to give me a breathing treatment. Fragrances will immediately do that cats and dogs take much longer to bother my breathing.
