Does anyone have Aetna medicare advantage plan?

Are you happy with it? We are considering changing over to Aetna. They claim they have a in network travels with you feature, have you used that? We are going to a "town hall" meeting with them to get more info, but I'm interested in how satisfied their customers are. Since we snowbird the travel feature is important to us.

Re: Does anyone have Aetna medicare advantage plan?

I cannot answer your question but we just recently had to purchase a plan for my DH....he was on a plan thru a public employee retirement group that is no longer going to pay for their insurance so we had to learn quickly how to purchase the insurance.  It was a great policy and he was spoiled.

We ended up with a Medical Mutual  plan.  The Plan name is PLAN N.  His monthly cost is about 148.00 and the yearly deductible is $147.00....he has had a couple of medical issues this year and we feel that this plan works best for him.

The montly premium is a bit high but there is no copay and he can go anywhere he wants to to see a doctor, plus a low deductible, plus we had to buy a drug plan.

We are waiting for the paperwork to better review the policy but I think we understood what we were purchasing!  It's daunting! If we find it did not fit his needs we will switch next year.

Good luck choosing your policy.

@Mom2Dogs"Daunting" is absolutely the only way to describe the effort of working through the healthcare options.  I do hope you and DH find that the plan you found works well for him; I'd hate to imagine going through the same daunting task year after year.

It makes the European-style single payer sound so easy, but when I talk with people who actually live with some of theose plans, there are problems there, too.  Heathcare has improved so much in my lifetime, but as the researchers find more treatments and cures, the hurdles we face as patients and payers get high and higher --and I have yet to hear anyone put forth any plan that will ever solve all the issues.

Re: Does anyone have Aetna medicare advantage plan?

My DH just spent a long time on the phone with his health ins. agent. he told us he sells everything but BC/BS so he will be able to set them all out for us and we can chose and ask questions.

After he hung up DH said "When did we ever have time to work?" and I said well, for one thing we did not have to pick our health ins. , we were stuck with what the company gave us.  I find everything about medicare to be very confusing, and I have really made an effort to become as educated as possible about it.

I would not recommend you to get Aetna medicare.  I work at a provider's office and when I call Aetna I am speaking to someone in the Phillipines.

Before changing be sure to call your doctors and verify the he/she accepts your insurance plan. Just because the name of the plan has the word Medicare do not assume that all docs take it.

Is that your only complaint about them?

Re: Does anyone have Aetna medicare advantage plan?

I have had a Aetna Medicare Advantage Plan for the past two years.  My recommendations for snow birds is to make sure the physicians in your area are on the list of preferred providers for Aetna, both at your winter and summer homes.  I believe that as long as you are going to Aetna approved providers you should be ok.But check this out with Aetna    When one travels I suggest purchasing Travel Insurance.  They all have a usual $50,000 medical coverage if you become ill while you are on your trip even out of the USA.  This might be more economical than adding a international coverage on your medicare advantage plan.  Check the travel insurance sites out for more information - the medical coverage is relatively inexpensive  while it is extensive covering evacuation and repatriation. For the past two years I have not paid an extra  premium for the supplemental Medicare Advantage insurance except for the$104.00 deducted from your social security check for medicare part a. The second year of my coverage saw the co-pays increase nominally (about $10 for primary and maybe $30 for specialists). Also there was an increase in the deductible for hospital care.  You don't need a referral for the specialist.  The plan provides payment at no co-pay for an annual physical, mammogram, and eye exam.   The plan also provides payment for prescriptions.  I find when I call Aetna that I deal with people in the United States, although I usually speak with AETNA via internet - they have a good, informative web site.  You can check hey on prescriptions, EOB's, etc. very easily.  Since Aetna is acquiring Cigna - it appears that Aetna and BC/BS will be big players inthe medicare industry and as such should have a number of providers throughout the U.S.

I found this database of all Medicare Part D, and Medicare D Advantage Plans for 2016.

You may want to go to Aetna's site before attending a "town hall" meeting. Humana is owned by Aetna. Who owns Cigna?

Re: Does anyone have Aetna medicare advantage plan?

Some insurance companies have merged.  I am on one that merged with Aetna and I have a plan that is wonderful.  It is a bit high for an ER visit ($150 I think) but the people that have no insurance and run to the ER have ruined it for those that use the ER for true emergencies.  Thus, the insurance companies have raised their co-pay on ER visits.   From what I have been told, we did have a large premium increase at the beginning of 2015 due to Obama Care, the words of the Cigna rep that visited work.   I have not found any insurance that is fabulous for long hospital stays as the hospital costs have gotten surreal.  One good point is I have purchased so much medicine this fiscal year, my I have zero co-pays on all meds until the end of December.   I hope you don't have this need but it is there with my plan if needed.
