@drizzellla wrote:@Suzeecat I have been going to my Primary Care Physician for 30 years. Except to check my heart. BP and breathing, he is 20 feet away from me the entire visit.
But I would like to ask, since you are 67, are you on Medicare?
My last regular visit to my PCP, the nurse had quite a few questions that she asked me. I suspect from Medicare. Medicare have had a few questionnaires in recent years. The nurse asked was I depressed? Was I having any anxiety? Did I have someone to discuss my troubles. Did I think about suicide. A bunch of questions like that.
Maybe your Doctor's practice decided to make sure that Seniors got a hug once in awhile.
I'm still working so not on Medicare yet, but when I checked in for my apt I was given a questionnaire to fill out that had those same questions. It must be an "age" thing?

It is an "age" thing..I did ask my PC Dr. when she started to ask those same questions..
She said she has to ask ( not always)..
She said especially when people have "conditions" that they can no longer do certain things...
She also asks me if I feel safe at home..She said some have elder abuse in the home. She asks DH the same questions.

None of my doctors ever hugged, but i wanted to bear hug my OB after my son was delivered. He came into the recovery room and i just had the biggest smile on my face! i wildly wanted to hug him!! it must have been the hormones!! this was back in the 70s. did anyone other than family hug then?
(my son's Dad had hightailed it out of there right after the birth. he was starved and i hadn't let him go eat or even bring in a tray of food while i was in labor. like all day long! )

No, I have never been hugged on a medical visit which strikes me as unusual.

Since COVID, my docs don't even shake hands, never had one hug me.

Yes, it's an age thing for people on Medicare. They get paid for a Wellness exam to ask these questions. They also will give you three words and ask you to recall them later and draw a clock with numbers and hands....usually set to 11:10.
I know 11:10 is used because the young person who looks at the wellness paperwork can't tell time on a clock unless it is an analog one. They can look on their cheat sheet to see if you filled in 11:10 correctly.
They get paid to do this wellness exam every 12 months.

What year it was made no difference with my doctors. If I was at the offices of my doctors, that are also my friends. We always shook hands and talked about things other than my visit for a minute or so.
Their beliefs of, and the release of the virus, corresponded with mine. If we were in their office, all that @%*× about the virus was in our rear view mirrors.

@hckynutjohnMy dr.'s office was pretty much open all during even the early days of the pandemic, but with precautions. I don't think they closed at all. At the beginning, they had a person stationed outside, who took your temp & wrote it on a paper before they'd allow you inside. I live in AZ, so sitting outdoors at a desk in the heat probably was no fun.
Now, you still must wear a mask inside & the receptionist takes your temp at the front desk. Everyone in the office, from the front desk to medical personnel all still wear masks & there's a sign on the entrance that you MUST wear a mask to enter, I think it's a practice-wide requirement & it's pretty much the only place that I go that I still have to wear a mask to enter.

I knew my PCP since he graduated from school. He has been the family PCP for the past 30+ years. He used to shake hands only but due to Covid, he stopped and now he only says hello. Not once in the 30+ years he has treated my family ex-husband and 3 boys who are adults now. he has hugged any of us. That is weird.
