Re: Does Anyone Use RESTASIS for Dry Eyes????

I used it for several years and, to be honest, didn’t notice any difference.

So last year, I stopped and didn’t notice any difference from stopping at all.

So I no longer use it.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

Not to hijack, but just in case anyone is looking for an alternative to eye drops, when my rheumatologist suggested I should take more omega-3 capsules (for various reasons, as I expect we are all aware), I also found that my dry eyes were relieved.  No more itching or tearing.  He hadn't mentioned thaat would be a benefit!  I notice if more than a day goes by when I forget.

(Of course, none of this is meant to counteract whatever your own doctors say.)

He recommended Now(r) Super Omega capsules, of which he said to take 8 per day.  (There's also an Ultra Omega that has coated capsules to help prevent reflux and fish odor, if that's a concern.  It has a higher EPA factor, so you may need fewer.)  Both are soft gels, so easy to swallow.

If 8 per day sounds like too much all at once, then work up to whatever amount helps.  It took only a couple of days for me to notice the difference.  I'm not pushing this supplement other than as a suggestion.

Hi @jackthebear

Make sure you take enough to feel a difference.  You can tell after a few days.

Just a couple capsules don't do it for me.  I really do need to take the eight he told me to.  It's darn annoying swallowing them, but you can break it up during the day.  Most days I do it all at once though, just to get it over with!  Woman LOL

And I know they do me more good overall than just my eyes.

On the other hand, if you have no other issues, you may not need to build up to 8.  Best wishes!

how many MGs do you need to take

" anti-inflammatory effects of omega-3 don’t kick in unless you get more than 2700 mg of EPA/DHA daily.

I take 8 capsules of the the Super Omega, which adds up to 2880 of EPA per day.  (360 x 8 = 2880).   At the time, these were the ones that had the most EPA concentration.   I keep the containers in the refrigerator, even though it doesn't say so on the container.  And like the quote you included, there are other formulations in which you can get the same dosage but maybe with more capsules.

I'd love to just eat salmon all the time, but that's become a bit too costly.

Anyway, thanks for the total mg question.  That is something we all need to know!

@jackthebear

So what is the one you use now?

Restasis makes my eyes itch and burn!!

Actually it is from a lab my opthamologist has a deal with.  It turns out to only be $35 a bottle.  They make it there and you buy it by mail.  But, I am having a hard time complying.

Thank you everyone for all the help!!!

I typed Restasis in the search box and many threads appeared. Some are older but may offer helpful suggestions for you as well. I hope your eyes feel better.

@SeaMaiden also recommended this supplement.  My eye doctor also approved it.  I'm trying it.

Life Extension LactoFerrin from Amazon
