Does Anyone Here Take Brilinta

I take Brilinta due to having 2 strokes last year. I got a message from my drug company today that the price has gone up from $125.00 to $295.00....quite a jump if you ask me!

Re: Does Anyone Here Take Brilinta

go to the AstaZeneca website and apply for the patient assistance program. you can be eligible if you have Medicare or no insurance.

Re: Does Anyone Here Take Brilinta

@jubilant , I took it with my first heart attack back in 2016. I was severely affected by it and I ended up in a wheelchair unable to walk. I researched it and found out it affects many patients that way and had to demand my cardiologist take me off it.  He is a past doctor for me as I found a new cardiologist who immediately took me off it and put me on Plavix. Brilinta is a drug that also causes more bleeding than Plavix. Google the other controversial info about Brilinta. Numerous lawsuits from patients.

After my stroke last year and carotid endarterectomy, I took Plavix for 3 months and was then put on one baby aspirin per day.

@Trinity11  I thought that was you that happened to. I tried to get you back by using the @ button and couldn't reach you. My husband at that moment said our xfinity went down.

I take the brilinta with aspirin and it has worked. While I do have a slight breathing problem I am thinking of changing to something else. My  doctor has not thought it was bad enough to change but last week it got a little more scary. I appreciate your info and will look up the complaints. I'm also looking for a new cardiologist  but wanted to talk to my family doctor first. I hope you are doing ok. I took a fall 11 days ago and have massive bruises. I went to a clinic and while the doctor thought it was just a hemotoma, she said my fall looked so bad she still wanted to do xrays to rule out broken bones. I have talked to others on blood thinners and no one had ever seen bruises as big as mine. Maybe I'm over reacting because it was a bad fall but that kind of concerns me, too. Thanks for getting back with me.

I am so sorry to read that you had a fall! Yes, the bruising is terrible with Brilinta. I had it too and I started bleeding elsewhere from it too. If you have any breathlessness, more than likely the Brilinta may be causing it @jubilant .

Look up Brilinta Controversy. It explains all of it. Hope everything resolves for you. I understand how upsetting this all can be.đź’•

@jubilant, I just realized I mispelled the drug company name. it's Astra Zeneca. I left out the R.

Re: Does Anyone Here Take Brilinta

@Trinity11  Well I saw my family doctor and one of the top pharmaceutical people in the state

happened to be at the clinic. I have found out the reason they are wanting to keep me on Brilinta as long as the breathing gets no worse. Here it is

according to what my family doctor and pharmacist found out.

After my carotid surgery and bleed-outs they tried several different mixes for blood thinners. The surgeon who did my surgery has said the others didn't get my blood to where they wanted it..........till they tried the Brilinta with aspirin so it is specifically related to my situation.

I will be getting a 2nd opinion on that. I had to get a new cardioligist (that comes highly recommended to me.) I will be seeing him next Tues. I'm so hoping to get this resolved. It will probably mean more tests on my heart but you do what you have to do.....you probably know that better than anyone!  I appreciate all the input you have given me.....just wanted to let you know where it's going.

Personally, I think I would hesitate to take anything as valid from a drug rep.regarding treatment plans. Also you need a cardiologist to give you a treatment plan. I am happy to read you are going to see a cardiologist. It is unacceptable to leave you breathless. And Plavix, have you ever taken it @jubilant

@Trinity11 No,  I have never been put on Plavix but my chart says that plavix is one of them they tried while I was in ICU after my stroke and they weren't happy with my blood results.  I did see a cardiologist last Nov. and he would not even discuss Brilinta with me....said he would leave that discussion up to my family doctor. What?! I thought....if anyone should know you would think it would be a cardiologist?? He was running behind, in a hurry, and very abrupt. It was my first and last visit to him! My doctor's office totally disagreed with him  and suggested this new cardiologist I'll be seeing next week.
