A number of years ago, I asked my then current PCP for a recommendation for a gyno because I was unhappy with the one I was currently seeing. He told me he really didn't have an recommendations but he gave me the name of someone he would never recommend and to stear clear of. He said it pained him to say that because he was very good friends with her husband, also a physician. Turns out, the gyno he told me to stear clear of was the one I was unhappy with.
He didn't get into a lot but said there were way too many malpractice lawsuits against her and other violations.
If I need a referral to another doctor, I typically ask my PCP.

@hckynut I didn't imply they are getting any sort of kickback.
What I said was, they generally are encouraged to only refer within their group/practice/health care system OR if they personally know the physician.
When the choice of referral is between someone they don't know and one of their friends, I know surely they'll refer their friend WHETHER OR NOT that friend is good for my issue or not.

The young boys / fellows were obviously immature and should not have been in that position where females were unclothed. The doctor obviously didn't care which is why I never went back.

No you did not. Guess I got caught up in the negativity, not by you, some seem to have for doctors. I apologize for that.

As for the "I know surely" comment? You may "think/surmise/ guess/project", as can anyone, but know surely? I think not.
In my case last year when my friend, the Ortho Doctor, no longer worked on feet, just a hip and knee specialist. I don't know that the doctor he recommended was his friend. What I do know is this. When my question was "who would you see"? He gave me the doctors name and contact number.
As it turned out, that doctor was good for my outcome. I told him I didn't want anything he did to fix my problem, to interfere with my ice skating.
I got no guarantee, what I got from him was this. "If you can still fit your foot into your skate(surgery caused swelling), and handle the pain, that is up to you".
Wasn't easy getting my swelled foot into my left skate, but I did. Pain? Yep, but once my skating endorphins kicked in, I was just fine.Taking the skate off, not that pleasant.
Sorry about about the conflation of the topics.

And just how were they "obviously immature" exactly?

Are you talking about physicians in fellowship training? If so, why are you referring to them as young boys?

@Vivian We are all stuck in less than perfect situations these days. I hope your husband came out of things OK.
This is what I would do now--I would get my husband an appt. with my derm in case he needs a derm in the future. I would not discount my dr.'s opinion. Just me.

MaizeandBlue, I did exactly what you suggested. When my dermatologist couldn't see my husband for months, I made an appointment for him to see my dermatologist when she was available, so he has an appointment to see her in March.
As for my internist, she runs her own practice. She is one of the few left in our town who isn't part of a group practice or network of practices that include all specialists. I think she had some honest trepidations about the dermatologist my husband wound up seeing months ago, but I feel that she either should have said nothing or provided me with a little more general information about her concerns. I've had plenty of doctors who've taken the latter option and I appreciated it.

@mom2four0418 , exacty. How demeaning and rude. This makes it sound as if they are 14 and 15 yo silly boys.
If there is ever a time when you are being seen by a physician who then brings someone in training into the room, you aways have the option of telling your physician you are uncomfortable with that and the physician will ask that person to leave the room. I have done it before.
