Re: Doctor office to decide if they will keep me as a patient?

I have never heard of that. except in cases where a practice changes the insurance plans they accept. At a minimum, I would have expected them to communicate before exclluding you. Maybe that got lost in the scramble last year.

Sorry to hear you have to go back on "probation" after all these years--you must feel kind of abandoned.

That said, I think most private businesses have the right to choose what customers to serve, just as customers have a right to take their business elsewhere. In your shoes, I might consider that; I'm not sure I'd feel confident and trusting of that practice anymore.

Re: Doctor office to decide if they will keep me as a patient?

I have an appointment on Monday with a family practice I've been going to for almost 30 years.  I see that my appt is coded as "new patien," I'm guessing because my last appt was Feb. 2018 and they need time to refresh my information.

I see specialists for everything, so I don't often need something general, so I don't go there very often.  I'm just glad they still consider me a patient as a lot of practices are closed to new patients.

Re: Doctor office to decide if they will keep me as a patient?

LOL, No, I have not disappeared.  I don't check these forums daily and I was also on vacation-as if I have to explain myself but for those who have asked I did receive a phone call when I came back from vacation that I was accepted back into the office and to set up appointment.  However in the mean time I thought maybe this is a good time to find a new doctor and I reached out to one that my hubby goes to and several others I know go there and they really like that office so I now have a new doctor!

I do have to say that while I appreciate the responses as I've said before some of them are really snarky IMO.  I don't understand why some posters seem to make it a point to make accusatory comments, i.e. that I hadn't seen any healthcare provider in 3 years or if I have a chronic condition then I am not taking care of myself, etc. which is not true.  IDK-maybe it's the way I am reading the responses.  Thank you for the responses.

@pegsue   you mentioned that the Practice that your husband goes to is accepting new patients. You made the right choice. It's great having all your medical records at one place.

Re: Doctor office to decide if they will keep me as a patient?

You may be referring to my post and I did not say that you aren't taking care of yourself.

What I said is that it is the physician's PERCEPTION that if you aren't seeing a physician in 3 years, not even for a physical, that you aren't taking care of yourself.

It's a "thing."  They expect to see you at least once a year.

Twice, 3 yrs have gotten by me and for insurance purposes I had to reanswer questions.  Life happens.  If they don't want your money, I'll bet you can find a doctor who does.
