I have been doing for a few years.  I thought it was supposed to make me calmer but no luck.

I agree that prayer can be a form of meditation and do that too., but I don't think all prayer is meditation.  Only the ones that involve repetition.

No.  I have tried it unsuccessfully quite a few times.  My mind just goes all over the place.  I do pray a lot. I guess some don't feel this is meditation and maybe it isn't but I consider it to be.  It causes me to be more calm and peaceful and centered.

Re: Do you meditate?

[ Edited ]

I've tried many a time....I just never took to it.

I find with my scattered, probably ADD (never been diagnosed) type brain, I "meditate" much better doing an enjoyable, easy, "mind freeing" task, like dead-heading flowers in the garden. Or playing Solitaire online. Or adult coloring, in a book or online. I'm better where I can kind of zone out doing a task like that where my mind rests, than if I sit and just breathe.

I do believe it's great for you...just find the sitting thing, I've never stuck with. I've tried it many ways, on my own, with guidance of an audio playing to guide you through.

I will say....whenever I've taken a Hatha type Yoga class, which I used to do more regularly, years ago...they'd start and end with a guided meditation...and in that setting it works better for me.

When I was still working in the hospital, every day at 12 noon they offered a guided meditation session for one hour. (This was for employees only.) I attended out of curiosity and had an amazing experience which took me to a place of total calm and peace!

Unfortunately, since retiring, I have not been able to find anyone in my area who offers that kind of group experience. Everyone wants to push yoga, but it is not the same.

I do know there are online sessions. Nothing works for me like in-person.

I've always wondered whether praying the rosary is a form of meditation, as it's so repititious. A form of mental calming? Do young people pray the rosary? It's always older people I've known who've done it. That's led me to wonder whether it's a balm for the anxiety of age. I've also heard young people say it's just too complicated to bother with.

I don't meditate.

I pray direct to my Heavenly Father, whenever I am moved to do it, whatever is on my heart (no repetition or pre-written text).  Normally it's my way to start and end the day but I will pause anytime I want to as well.  At bedtime, I usually fall asleep while praying. I also read and study Scripture, and apply it to my daily life.

Look up Jennifer Reis.....she is amazing and on Thursday nights at 8p she does yoga nidra live on zoom. Not yoga although she teaches that as well but yoga nidra which is an incredible form of meditation.
