@KimmC I've been taking a yin yoga class at my local YMCA for 2 years. Many of the people that are in my class have had knee surgery and they have found this to be the least stressful form of yoga for their knees. I used to go to a chiropractor on a monthly basis but since I've started this practice I rarely need to go anymore. Good luck!

Rodney Yee has some great videos that aren't too crazy but done consistently they will definitely produce results. AM/PM is a good start. I have back and neck issues. They worked really well for me.

Yoga is wonderful, and being in a class or private instruction is well worth the time and money. Having a teacher help you to correctly do the poses, or modify them for you will benefit you ,That said, my first yoga teacher was the best and she emphasized how important it is to find a teacher whose styl you are comfortable with. She recommended taking one class with a teacher before signing up for a series to see if you & the teacher are a good fit.
if you Google "yoga + your city", you'll find a number of options (I hope!).

@Lilysmom wrote:@KimmC, you should enquire at your local fitness center. There is usually a list of classes and some instructors offer private lessons. Perhaps you should start with a few one on one sessions and then join a class. So good for you! LM
I second this. I used to belong to a gym and they offered a basic Yoga class. The instructor was certified in a type called YogaFit and her class was a wonderful blend of basic Yoga moves and stretching exercises. She always gave options for those that could do harder moves and those that had to dial back.
I always felt about 2" taller when I got out of that class and I still practice many of the moves I learned in the class.

@KimmC wrote:So, I am new to Yoga..my son got me interested. I'm 59 with 2 knee replacements and some back issues. I found some Youtube videos that are very good for people with knee issues. Any other ideas for me? I'd like to keep going with it because I'm really enjoying it. The 2 videos I have been using have me on my back most of the time. I'd like to do some standing as well.
I appreciate any information or ideas!
YOGA FOR EVERYBODY by Peggy CAPPY. Got it on Amazon. About one hour for every age. Mild yoga, a lot of stretching. You can do standing or in chair. All her yoga series are very good for everyone.

Yoga is absolutely amazing and offers so many benefits. Body, mind, spirit. However, it is the one are of "fitness", for the most part, I prefer to take classes. In order to gain the most benefit, technique moving forward. I do some at home married with my other fitness regimes but I get THE most all around benefit via classes.

Thanks so much to everybody for all the great ideas!! I did look locally and the cost of an instructor for an individual session is $75 to $90 an hour. They advise doing this prior to taking any classes. Is this an average price?

Without knowing where you are it might be hard to say if that's an average cost.
I can say that private figure skating lessons are in that price range.
My other thought is that I'm not sure it's necessary to take a private yoga lesson before joining a group yoga class; I've not heard that emphasized before - and I once tried out a couple hot yoga group classes! (I HATED hot yoga).

This is the price where I live. I don't think private sessions are necessary if you take a beginner class. HTH. 😊
