Teddie, I could go into a long explanation of what's wrong with me, but it would be a boring exercise, and I am fully aware there are folks here who are far worse off than me.  Suffice it to say that anything I put in my mouth and therefore into my digestive system makes any day a trial.

I am on a very restrictive diet, but I'm not sure I'm doing the right things at the right time.  That's why I am working closely with a very highly regarded nutritionist referred to me by my gastroenterologist.  She said it takes weeks for the gastro system to adjust to the new foods and has assured me I will get there.

Thank you very much for your kind words and understanding.

@LilacTree

I have followed your posts before and we've chatted in the past. I told you I was horrified with how some of our fellow posters treated you and that it brought tears to my eyes. I know you're dealing with a huge amount of struggles, in addition to caring for your precious daughter. I know you can't say everything you want to say here and I feel the same. There is much I could share about myself but when I see how so many are brutalized (yes, brutalized) I can't put myself in that position. You don't need to reply again but I wanted to follow up on what you said. Hugs to you and praying that you find help specific for you. ❤️

I did not read the article, but I got the jest of what it seems to be implying. There are many that may look "fat" that have a Body Composition that says otherwise. This I know is a tiny minority, but there are those that look "fat" that are not.

"Muscle carries fat", and too much fat makes it harder for muscles(which includes the heart muscle) to efficiently do their job. More and/or toned muscle tissue make their task much easier. Many do not know, or just do not consider the heart to be a "muscle". If one were to be able to pick the muscle that wanted to perform at it's best, most with knowledge to  of this physiology, would choose the "heart muscle".

A person can be a lot overweight, and carrying too much fat tissue, but they can also be physically fit. Healthy might be another story, but being over fat does not preclude everyone from being both physically fit, and physically healthy. That said, there are other factors involved in muscles having to "carry more fat" during the duration of their typical day.

You have more strain on every single joint of the human body, and that includes all the tendons that connect muscle to bone, and all the ligaments that connect bone to bone. Throw in the protective fluids and you have a lot more than just the health of the muscles, including the heart.

For the record: I was the FAT KID in late grade school and 2 years of high school, so I have been there.  I decided that most high school girls did not want to date "fat boys". So I went on my first weight loss journey at age 14, knowing only "if I ate less, I would loss weight", that was all I knew back in 1953.

To make it even harder, I worked at a Drive-in Restaurant, at times in the kitchen and working behind the ice cream fountain. I accomplished my goal of losing 60lbs and went from an introvert to a very talkative extrovert.

Like many that have lost a lot of weight through food restriction only, I lost and gained a lot of weight for many years. When I was almost 30, in 1969, I went on a mission to learn as much as I could about the human body in relation to health/physical fitness/weight and injuries.

Much of what I learned was by "trial/error, and lots of physical injuries". Little was known back then about prevention/rehabilitation, or real causes of many exercise related injuries. I read all I could find/attended many clinics and found out there were people that knew about the above mentioned things.

I could type a book about my experiences with weight loss and exercise in relation to  the human physiology.  I however think this post is sufficient to express my feelings about this topic.

Is being obese healthy?

No, I don't think that anyone would say that it was.

But, are there any mothers out there (not just on this board) who would love their child less, if they were obese?

If so, I think that is just sad.

They probably wouldn't love them no matter what, the obesity would just be an (lousy) excuse.

Hi my friend @LilacTree,

So good to see you posting again, and you really have a good friend here also in @Teddie. She has said many things that I agree with 100% when it comes to so many issues, with humans!

Sounds like you had a great visit with your former co-workers, and kudo's to the one that had the Bariatric Surgery. What others think means little to me, but others are hurt to the bone by such demeaning and downright cruel statements about her having this type of surgery. She said the same thing my wife said, and still says, "it added much happiness to her life".

As you know, I have my own Gastro issues, but what foods I put into my system, fortunately has little to do with it. I just have to forgo most pain killers, or go through the bleeding/Colonoscopy/blood transfusion route if I do take any of them.

Take good care of yourself, and that is meant for your daughter also.

Your Friend,

Hi John!  Thank you for your very kind wishes for me and my daughter.  I am beginning to feel better, maybe getting used to this diet.  My RA is still flaming, but I am more used to that.  I'd much rather get the digestion issue in order and will continue to concentrate on that.

I never thought someone who had bariatric surgery would get insults because of it!  My friend had been warned by her doctor that her life was in jeopardy!!  She has gone through hell all her life because of her weight and all I felt for her was joy!  I honestly don't understand people and don't think I ever will.  I am happy for Cindy also if she had that done and has had such relief.

I appreciate Teddie also, she has always been kind to me.  "Kindness" . . . another word to go along with "Peace" and "Love."  And boy, do we need them these days!!

Hope you're continuing to do well also John, I so appreciate our friendship.  Have a great day.  ~Ford

I will say something anyway, LOL.  As Hckynut has responded to me regarding you, I will say I agree completely.  And I also agree with everything you said in this post.  (((hugs))) to you as well.

Re: Do you agree with this article?

I think people should be accepted for the kind of person they are, not for skin color, gender, weight, or whether they are pretty or not.  I think almost everyone has some issue:  depression, drug use, weight either too much or too little, alcoholism, insomnia, weak heart, smoking, etc. etc.

My point is people should look to their own faults first and love others for who they are.  Some of these problems are self-inflicted for whatever reason, some inherited, some a problem of willpower, some, including weight, inherited.  I don't think we should blame or belittle people.

Love others, help them if they ask, and mind your own beeswax and resist forming opinions about people when you really DON'T know the genesis of a problem or behavior.

I think a person's weight is between them and their doctor.  If it's a threat to their health, they should try to improve things, but even that is their choice.

Obesity is indeed a health hazzard but size bigots never mention all the other health hazzards; some which are more dangerous than obesity.  Being severely underweight and over dieting and abusing ones' body to stay skinny is much worse than obsesity and scrawny isn't any more attractive than being big either.  People of all sizes have poor diets; people smoke, people take drugs, people drink excessively, people live stressful lives, people drive without seat belts, people don't have preventative physicals, women don't have mammograms or pap smears.  The list goes on and on.  I don't even know what you mean by cutsey name for being large.  I suppose fat slob is what you'd prefer.  You hate don't like overweight people, we get that.  That's your right.  But you should stop usine CUTSEY names to justify it.  I do feel sorry that your daughter has such a mother.  A child deserves better.  So, you said it.  Now go away and find some skinny  size bigots to converse with.
