Re: Disappointed in myself. Regained the same 20lbs again...

I exercised quite a bit to lose the 40 .. then developed

bone on bone in both ankles ....could hardly walk enough

to get done what I needed to around the house .. and

grocery shopping .. so I feel like I am up the proverbial

creek ....

Don't be so hard on yourself.  It's winter and many suffer from the winter blahs....eating cheap carbs will make you gain and also temporarily help with those winter doldrums.

Just tell yourself that you can do it!  Set a plan.... remove junk from your kitchen, shop for healthy foods and decide when you will begin and just do it!

For me it's low carb eating.  I don't count calories but I do watch what I eat and stay away from bread, pasta, rice, sweets and any high carb food.

You know.  I have to give this low-carb thing a try.  I'm a calorie counter, eating stuff in small portions so I don't feel deprived.  Maybe I just have to stop eating even a little bread, rice and the such.  It has worked for so many people.

You don't miss bread and crackers?

@Northray I did at first.  After a week or so I didn't plus I felt like I had more energy which is important to me.  I can easily get tired & fatigued.

There are a lot of videos on YouTube about how to start a low carb (I never really went keto which is just a more extreme version) diet plus there are a lot of sites with great recipes.  There are some great dessert recipes too!

Yeah, I've heard that.  At first, it's hard but then you don't mind.  I'm like, what, really?  I know I definitely could not do Keto.  Just going through the Keto flu would do me in.

But Omgosh some of those low carb desserts are genius.  Lots of low carb recipes on Pinterest too.

@Northray

What is the Keto Flu?  Never heard of it!

I am keto but not by choice.  I am Type 2 diabetic.  This is a total life style change for me.

I don't fit the diabetic profile.  Low weight, no family history, no gestational diabeties.

I have been doing this for 8 mos now.  If the 'flu' is just that...never had it.  Does that stand for something that is going over my head?

On pills, not shots.  Have easily lost weight I didn't need to lose.

Keto goes against every pattern I used my whole life to keep my weight stable....low cal, low fat, small portions.

Deprived?  At first...but I love to cook and bake and am finding all sorts of great recipes that keep me VERY satisfied.  You can find low carb, low sugar 'things' everywhere.

You are certainly not alone. I've always heard it's easier to take off, then too keep off. I guess it's true or I'd still weigh 118 lbs.

I totally understand, maintenance after a weight loss is the hardest part.

it's for your physician ( with your input) to determine whether being overweight is healthier for you than attempting to lose. There are many tools and options for losing and keeping weight off. For someone to state that it's better to be overweight and just accept it, is ridiculous. So many factors play into it- current health status, medical history, other things. I would not take the advice of an internet stranger.

@smoochy.  I don't think any doctor would recommend repeated dieting + regaining as a healthy lifestyle, especially since it early always results in extra weight being added.

I said nothing about yo yo dieting being healthy. Where are you getting this from my post? Read more carefully. Clearly i was speaking about losing and keeping it off for better health. Duh.

I am probably 20-25 pounds overweight--haven't gotten on a scale in years!  As long as my clothes fit, at 75 I am no longer strongly motivated to lose weight like I was in my 40s and 50s.  I'm healthy as far as I know and do not agonize or beat myself up for being a tad on the "heavy" side.

@Northray  It IS MUCH HARDER to keep the weight off than to lose it in the first place.

@smoochy One can be overweight and still be healhy.

I never said you couldn't. Re read my post

@Northray     many in that field and other regular people that have lost a big amount of weight say pretty much the same thing

"losing the weight is the easy part keeping it off is the harder part"

you have a lot of company in this regard many that have lost hundreds of pounds over many decades only to gain it back

i agree with others that say to keep trying and don't give up

I won't.

For life?  See, I just don't think I could do injections.  Hate needles.

The needle is only about 1/4 inch long.  You don't feel it.

yes it's an extremely short, fine gauge needle. I've removed splinters larger than the needle on an insulin syringe. Piece of cake.

You are not alone.

I've done the same thing about 100 times.  Maybe I should just staple my mouth shut!
