For me it's low carb eating. I don't count calories but I do watch what I eat and stay away from bread, pasta, rice, sweets and any high carb food.
You know. I have to give this low-carb thing a try. I'm a calorie counter, eating stuff in small portions so I don't feel deprived. Maybe I just have to stop eating even a little bread, rice and the such. It has worked for so many people.
You don't miss bread and crackers?
@Northray I did at first. After a week or so I didn't plus I felt like I had more energy which is important to me. I can easily get tired & fatigued.
There are a lot of videos on YouTube about how to start a low carb (I never really went keto which is just a more extreme version) diet plus there are a lot of sites with great recipes. There are some great dessert recipes too!
Yeah, I've heard that. At first, it's hard but then you don't mind. I'm like, what, really? I know I definitely could not do Keto. Just going through the Keto flu would do me in.
But Omgosh some of those low carb desserts are genius. Lots of low carb recipes on Pinterest too.

There are many tools and options for losing and keeping weight off. For someone to state that it's better to be overweight and just accept it, is ridiculous. So many factors play into it- current health status, medical history, other things. I would not take the advice of an internet stranger.
@smoochy. I don't think any doctor would recommend repeated dieting + regaining as a healthy lifestyle, especially since it early always results in extra weight being added.

I am probably 20-25 pounds overweight--haven't gotten on a scale in years! As long as my clothes fit, at 75 I am no longer strongly motivated to lose weight like I was in my 40s and 50s. I'm healthy as far as I know and do not agonize or beat myself up for being a tad on the "heavy" side.
@Northray It IS MUCH HARDER to keep the weight off than to lose it in the first place.
@smoochy One can be overweight and still be healhy.

The chance of losing then regaining what you lost plus extra pounds is too great and counter productive. It's better for your health to instead be satisfied with yourself and try to develop a positive self-image.
Don't beat yourself up. The majority of diets end just as yours did.
That is an excellent point .. and after many years of this I
totally agree with you ....

Just upset by it ...
Yep, me too. Got some really cute tops and jeans after the weight loss and now they sit in my closet looking like expensive diamonds I can't buy. Back to the bigger clothes I boxed up to give to Goodwill and forgot to bring them.
So Sorry .. you too ... thank goodness you still had them ...

That's how I lost the 40 ...

@Northray I understand what you're saying.
I recently lost almost 15 lbs. I only wanted to lose 10, & they were a vanity 10. I have something important in the future. But in my fear of regaining, I've continued my vigorous exercise and low amount of calories. Therefore, I've been losing more than I wanted to & my clothes are getting too baggy.
I've tried backing off my diet & exercise plan slowly.
One thing I've done to try to just maintain is that I've added breakfast back to my day - frozen dry waffles with nothing on them (not great Lol).
I've been trying to follow the CDC guidelines for senior exercising to increase longevity: 150 minutes of moderate exercise (faster breathing but you can still talk) or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise (faster breathing & not able to talk during). I've been power walking & going up the stairs 15+ times in 45 minutes.
Now instead of exercising 7 days/wk., I take 1 or 2 days off; of course on those days I feel guilty and try to do a ton of housework if there isn't snow to shovel.
Idk how to maintain either.

This thread reminds me of something that happened years ago. My friend's husband told her if she lost 50 lbs. he would take her to Hawaii.
She did, by using Nutrisystem, and she looked amazing. They went to Hawaii, returned, and she continued to celebrate her new look. Two years later she had regained the 50 lbs. and added about 25 more.
As for me, I do enjoy cooking when I have the time to do it. I enjoy trying new recipes. I realize I will never be 118 lbs. again, and as long as my doctor doesn't think I need to do anything drastic, I will just continue to enjoy what I eat. I am more aware of what I put into my body. ![]()
