My husband recently started Dialysis and is having a problem with a sore butt when he sits in the chair, he has tried different cushions and pillows.  Any suggestions?

@kansasbaker   Perhaps his doctor could prescribe a cushion that he could get at a medical supply store.

@kansasbaker  You should go to a surgical supply store & get a foam doughnut pillow also known as a coccyx pillow. Not the inflatable kind, the one that's foam & comes with a washable cover. My friend had the same problem & it helped her immensely.

 Good luck!!

Is the area of pain in the tailbone region or under the sitting bones? If under the sitting bones, he could have piriformis syndrome, which is where a muscle in that area (the prirformis) pinches the sciatic nerve while sitting.

Amazon has a nice selection that he can try out and keep what's most comfortable. I use one for pudendal nerve pain if I have to sit for longer periods.

A doughnut cushion has helped my mother's back when she has to sit for a long time. It is not inflatable. It is a regular pillow shaped like a doughnut. You can find them in medical supply stores.

Maybe a Rojo cushion.  They are good for wheelchair users so might be an option.

Did you speak with the nurses at the dialysis center about this?  This isn't just about comfort.  You want to avoid a pressure sore.  Also speak to his doctor.  Don't go out and buy just any cushion.
