Re: Diagnosed with PVD following cataract surgery

I had flashes in my right eye right before lockdown here in NJ.  I went to the eye dr about 4 weeks after they started and he checked and said it looked fine, no retina issues and said come back in a month.  Well a week later the flashes went a bit wild like a  firework finally as I was driving home from walking on the boadwalk and after they stopped I saw a ton of floaters off to the right and one big floater in my field of vision .  I freaked out and called the office and they said just keep your appointment which was in three weeks.  I felt ok but kept freaking out each day and kept calling the office until they finally said do you want to speak to the dr and I said yes, and he said just keep the appointment , so anyway I went back and he looked and said the retina was fine.  I was researching and it seemed like the big floater was something called a weiss ring so I asked him what's a weiss ring and he said that's what you got.  I felt better knowing it wasn't a detachment and have to say since that appointment it is so much better.  The floaters off to the right are not really there and the weiss ring is not that apparent either.  I try not to think about it and am grateful my eyes are doing fine, however the thought of having eye issues terrifys me now.  I do take Andrew Lessman's eye support.  You will be fine too, don't worry.

@dsky  Thanks so much.  Wow that sounds so scary.  I will look into the Lessman supplement.  Best wishes.

Re: Diagnosed with PVD following cataract surgery

I noticed I was having more floaters and was alao found to have vitreous detachment. I am a nurse. so of course all I heard was detachment. My opthamologist checked to make sure I had no problem wirh my retina, which I did not, He assured me that this is very common and resolves usually without any intervention. It did resolve and I have had no problems. If I remember correctly, it does not mean you are more prone to retina detachment.

@mokesix , thank you so much.  It is comforting to get positive feedback from a nurse. ♥

Re: Diagnosed with PVD following cataract surgery

I had cataract surgery 2-1/2 yrs ago.  I have had tons of floaters since.  My eye dr. says it is NOT related.  It is aging.  I don't believe it.  Especially after reading all of this.

@highmaintenancejan   My coworker had cataract surgery and he kept complaining about the floaters.

Re: Diagnosed with PVD following cataract surgery

@PilatesLover    I have the same thing.  I also had Cataract surgery.  Believe it or not it is common.   I had laser for the floaters, and I am good now.  It is also something that happens with age.
