@ID2 well good for you and your condescending attitude towards diabetics. This is not your first nasty post regarding people with diabetes.
the weird thing is that the OP did change her diet and has the diabetes under control 😏🤷♀️
I was told @tansy that neuropathy gets worse before it gets better. After increased blood sugars and the level of inflammation it causes, it can take up to six months to a year for the pain to resolve. Ten years after diagnosis of Type 1 I had painful neuropathy. I decided to do "tight control" and it went away. This was back in the 70's. Today I have it very mild and no meds to treat it.
Interesting, @Trinity11. I was annoyed with the erroneous post above that was made by @Goodie2shoes

Thanks for posting a photo of the NOW brand....this is the ALA without the gelatin that we use and have found it very effective. We buy it on Amazon at a good price.
@HerRoyaLioness wrote:@Goodie2shoes - I have it all, numbness, feeling like my toes are twice their size and feeling like something is on them, it drove me nuts. I use one 600 mg each day and it helps. My sister uses 300 mg twice a day.
@phoenixbrd - I think it's a good one and also buy it on Amazon and appreciate that it is not only a good price, but this also has some beneficial Bioperine and Grape Seed Extract in it.

I appreciate your post. I have been a Type2 diabetic for over 25 yrs. I was on Metformin for years. After having to have a repeat Right knee replacement in 2020 due to a staff infection, they took me off the meds and my MD decided not to put me back on meds so that was a BIG wakeup call ! My A1C had been around 6.4. I made a BIG change in diet and exercise because not being on meds scared me. I lost over 50lbs, down to 128 and my A1C is 5.8. Even with the changes in diet and still off meds, it still left me with the neuropathy which is just a side effect of years of diabetes. I was just curious about others who experience the same type of side effects of the diabetes and what if any treatment they have received and if it has helped. I will be seeing my MD next month so I will discuss my symptoms with him. It just seems like it's starting to be more annoying at night so that's why I wanted to see how others have dealt with it. Thanks again for your post and advice. .

My husband monitors his blood sugar very closely since we too have dealt with very low blood sugar levels he is not aware of. Several years ago I watched him walk at the VA and knew his blood sugar was low; it was 40, and he said he felt "a little off". DUH!

I know how difficult it is dealing with "hypoglycemic unawareness." 53 years later, the nerves are dead and the beta blockers also contribute. I need to go very low before feeling the awful side effects of going too low. My lows have been like your husband's and I have needed a glucagon shot to come around @RedTop . The stroke I had in June has also made everything worse.

I just read all these posts and I know I have mild neuropathy for many years in my toes, parts of the bottom of my feet, and now since 2 hip surgeries, I have sensory issues in the front of both legs, from knees to ankles, just a weird sensation. Not sure if it's circulatory or neuropathy. But the feet definitely are. I do not have diabetes. And now for the past 3 weeks, I have a dead pinky and side of ring finger and side of hand, a strange numbness. Thought it was from the ulna or elbow or wrist from leaning on elbow and typingt transcripts all day. i have no weakness though but the numb toes feel like I have socks on them too and always feels like socks are bunched up in my shoes. So annoying. I have been to the neurologist and they really had no answers and said it's from my back. I hate doctors and after 2 major surgeries recently this year, I really am reluctant to go to a hand surgeon, a spine doctor which I have been to, and the neurologist. But the numb pinky is more annoying than my feet at the moment. I watch sugar and have basically none, and same for carbs. I attribute the numbness issues to being a runner for over 40 years. I guess that killed off my hips and my lower lumbar. But anyways, I was given Gabapentin. What does that do for numbness? What does ALA do? Thank you.

When my blood sugar reaches 70, I am jittery, and as it drops lower, I get hot and sweaty. After a recent low blood sugar episode during the night, I have a few pieces of "rescue chocolate" hanging from my bedpost!

I don't want to sound preachy but the fat in the chocolate slows down the speed of raising the blood glucose level back up. Glucose tablets, orange juice and sugary soft drinks are more speedy. But chocolate tastes a whole lot better @RedTop !!

I no longer have lows but waking up hot and sweaty, with sopping wet hair, and being disoriented were my symptoms.
I was told to eat five Life Savers. That worked but I would still panic and chomp on more:/
