Diabetic Inspiration for Newbies...

....this time of year....it's difficult.  You are not being punished.....It's all about finding a new "normal"....Let's talk.  There is no magic answer, and it is difficult to divorce food from emotion and memory. You don't have to really do that, but in some cases, you might....such as this was the time of year when Mom always made pecan pralines, fruit cake and fudge-among other things..

We can have great meals-and sweet treats too, but there are some parameters and provisios. We can do this, and by doing so, you might actually feel as well as I do now.

My really good advice?  Don't just record your blood glucose, but also record how you feel physically afterwards.....be very aware: a one time high BG may not be t h at significant, but if you are hungry two hours after? It could mean that you ate more carbs than you should have-or maybe you can no longer tolerate that particular type of carb.  That happened to me-but in the case of those living up North, cold and shortened day length of day have their effects too.  We can do this.

I am giving thanks that I have all of my limbs and my vision.  There is no food that is good enough to replace not needing dialysis, amputation, etc. Let's talk!

Hugs and joy,

Yes, being a type 1 diabetic for the past 38 years I've learned to stay clear of all the carbs that surround holiday meals! It's difficult and challenging but it can be done. My first doctor, that I had when I was newly diagnosed, gave me great advice. If you find that you ate more wrong things than right, forgive yourself, brush yourself off and start a new beginning tomorrow. Woman Happy Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
