Sunshine and exercise is not going to do much for someone who is truly depressed.  These suggestions may help those who are feeling sad, but it takes years of therapy and possibly real medication in the hope of getting well.  Depression is a medical condition and should be dealt with as such with a doctor.

Vitamin D3 really does help. You could try a Light box or Dawn Simulator. a bedside lamp w/a full-spectrum  light source and a timer to gradually brighten..

Walking is good- chamomile tea in the evening helps too. If you are comfortable reaching out to family or friends/acquaintances- just to say- isn't this world crazy..as a conversation starter- .just talking is helpful- Reaching out and yes even posting on groups like this one can be helpful- just to know that others hear you. I know it sounds simplistic but that's what I do. 😊😇

My remedy... People.  Covid is a hard time but I have gone though a contact  list of OLD friends and have reached out by phone and by email.  Makes a difference.

No meds needed.

Bet it makes "a difference" to those friends too. Seems to me we ALL feel better when we force ourselves to "get in touch".

Circumstances are tough right now and the seemingly perpetually vacillating among so called "leadership" as to how and what to do to emerge from this horror, doesn't help.

Already hopefully looking forward to Spring and it won't even be Winter until December 21. STILL HOPEFUL ANYWAY.

@nana59  Just a word of caution if you end up going to a psychiatrist: Do an enormous amount of research on any psychiatric drug you may consider taking. The efficacy of them is under deep scrutiny now due to the emerging epidemic of people who react badly to them, especially if they try to withdraw from them. There are many websites and forums devoted to the subject of withdrawal from SSRI's, etc. Its pretty much a nightmare. And the fundamental theory behind these drugs (that their is a neurotransmitter imbalance in your brain) is now being exposed internationally as a faulty claim. In fact, scientists don't actually know how these drugs work. I am sure tons of people will bash me for pointing these facts out, but nonetheless the data is emerging and more and more doctors are stepping up to the plate and being honest about the many negative outcomes they see in their patients. Of course there are many people who see improvement while taking these drugs, but the other side is dark, and worth taking note of. As far as a natural supplement, there are many, many options out there. Some work for some people, others not so much. Many are potent and capable of interacting with prescription meds. Google "supplements/herbs for depression" and you will begin to see a cohesive list popping up again and again. Find yourself a good naturopath.  Also check out Dr. Kelly Brogan's website. Her path to healing from depression is inspiring and she offers a lot of good information. Good Luck!!

If I were going to "bash" anything, it would be a mass of UNREADABLE run on words with no paragraph breaks. I really would have loved to know what you were talking about.

The best natural depression help is a furry friend.  I never found anything "natural" that you can ingest that worked really well.  However a pet will get you to interact, petting the animal is naturally calming, and talking walks is helpful on all fronts (exercise, as well as mentally and emotionally recharging).  Cat, dog, bird, you name it.  They force a person to interact and get up out of a chair, and move.  Just a thought.  I'm sure there are natural suppliments you can take, but giving a homeless pet a home can be a great spirit uplifter for both of you.

Just remembered hearing about this - google EMPowerplus Q96.

Also, essential oils could help - some to diffuse are Lemon, Frankincense, Lavender, Bergamot, Orange.

Someone to encourage you every day to take healthful steps would be really beneficial. Please reach out for support (ie have them ask if you've taken a short walk, gotten some sunshine, taken your supplements, etc).

I hope things look brighter for you soon!

Prior to the pandemic, I had been going to my Senior Fit exercise class 4 days/week.  The classes were 45-50 minutes and attended by about 60-65 other seniors.  All of a sudden, no more classes.  No more interaction with my classmates.  Since I live alone, things have been difficult for me, but I'm trying to cope.  I do try to do a YouTube senior exercise most days.  I'm just doing the ones that are 22-24 minutes.  But it's a big help to get up an moving.  I do feel a bit better (mentally and physically) after those routines. Who knows, I might even check out longer routines eventually.  YouTube has a huges variety of exericises to choose from.  All free.  Better than trying to find a med that may or may not cause other problems.

Just remember that supplements are not regulated and you can not certain of strength.

Wish you a good solution.
