I have a long dental appt scheduled for Monday and since I have alot of dental anxiety, will have oral sedation. I will have to have a ride to and from. I am wondering if you have to have someone stay with you the few hours after you get home or for a while at least, until the loopyness wears off?
I know I can ask the dentist office but they are closed until tomorrow and I was wanting to know now

I just had oral sedation on Monday and no you won't need anyone to stay home with you. It doesn't make you loopy it just numbs you. At least that was my experience.

Are you getting Nitrous oxide ( aka laughing gas ? ) or some oral medication valium ?

When I had IV sedation for extensive detal work, they used Propofol, which is quickly reversed after the procedure.
I was advised not to drive, make important decisions, etc, for 24 hours.
I was groggy upon waking and kinda dozed off and on after getting home, but I did have someone within earshot for a few hours.

I don't remember ever being told what I should or should not do once I get home after any sedation beside not to make any big decisions. I would imagine their liability ends as soon as you walk out of their facility. Any time I have had sedation, and I have had both dental and for other things, I just go home and sleep it off. My husband may or may not be there.
That being said, if there are going to be any after-care instructions given make sure the person giving you the ride is there with you to write them down because you likely won't remember them. I do remember my periodondist being specific about that.

I just get the local shots. Avoid being put out for anything unless it’s actual surgery.

I had sedation (IV) due to anxiety for my dental implant procedure last month. Loopy is the right word! My friend and the nurse guided me to the car afterwards. I was aware but just kind of out of it. It was a 3 hour drive home. I got home and again my friend again just guided me to my bedroom and left. I remember kicking my shoes off and crawling into bed, clothes and all, and slept for 5/6 hrs. I was fine but just moving slowly and thought process not up to par. I don’t know why but, it took me another full day to completely feel normal but no problem being alone after getting home. I hope this helps and good luck with your procedure.

My dentist uses Versed. You can't drive a car until the next day.

Thank you for your replys!
It will be taking a pill an hour before the app and know I cant drive that day.
Just concerned as to if I need the friend that is driving needs to stay with me at home for a while after I get home, after the appt due to the possible loopy feeling.
Having hypoglycemia too and not being able to eat much is a concern if I am alone and possibly feeling a bit loopy.

I think you will feel better having someone stay with you afterwards so you should. It’ll ease your anxiety and since you’re hypoglycemic someone will be there in case you have a problem.
