I have never been there but if you have anxiety the dentist will give something for it.dentistry had come a long way and procedures are quicker and painless..sometimes a little minor discomfort but they don't want you to feel pain.

I have dental insurance and the thoughts of what it will possibly cost makes me sick to my stomach every time I have to go. I would rather just get dentures , no kidding.

There are dentists that will put you in a "twilight" sleep, there are some that will play you a movie at your feet, lots of options today.

As a child thoughts of the dentist scared me to death.  I had to have several fillings and did them without novicane because of needles (they never let you see anything).  I finally figured everything out at about ten years old!

Never had another problem!

If some of your anxiety is about the cost, look into "Care Credit".  This card allows you to make payments over time with no interest charges if you pay by the final date.  I believe they offer 6, 12, & 18 month payoffs depending on the total bill.

CC is good for hospital, dental, and even vet bills!

@151949 It is costly, isn't it?!! Even with insurance, there's an annual limit and that's easy to exceed with any major work...but dentures have their own issues.

I used to be a dental assistant back in the day...and it wasn't unusual to see people wanting dentures because I seemed the easiest and cheapest solution...until they found out that dentures don't work for everyone. And by the time they find out, it's too late. Poor fitting dentures caused by loss of bone makes eating a painful thing. It's heartbreaking to see.

My uncle is 85 and going through a ton of dental work. Initially he thought it was a waste of money at his age, and so put it off...until he couldn't eat anything but soft food. He's looking forward to getting the last of the fillings and crowns done so he can eat something other than "gruel". It's funny, I call him every week to see how he's doing, and I swear every conversation with him is him talking about his meals. 😊

Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.

As someone who has spent thousands of dollars over the years for dental work, I can certainly understand, BUT I don't regret spending one penny of it.  We all spend freely on our priorities, and this has been mine my entire life.  (thanks, Mom)  I smile a lot!!!  LOL  As far as anxiety, I am so thankful that there has been such an improvement in providing so many pain free procedures.

@nana59  I put aside an amount of $$ each month just as a savings account for future dental issues... I have a mouthful of crowns and I know that I am looking at a future of other issues if ( more likely WHEN) these crowns fail and I have to have root canal or implants.  Most people do not save for things like this and it is so nice to know that if an issue comes up I have moneys squirrelled away for emergencies.  Think about it so you are not anxious.  Also, ask if you get a discount for paying in cash in full... many dental offices will meet the insurance discounted prices if you pay in full, so it is just like having dental insurance!

I have dental insurance and was allowed to UP the coverage and it still did not cover it all over a three year period.  I had no choice.  I literally swallowed my crowns and my bridge fell out over and over.  So I INVESTED IN IMPLANTS.  I could have bought a car.  But I am doing well and glad I did it.
