Toxic chemicals known as PFAS have been found in food wrappers from more than a few fast food restaurants. Materials used to pack foods are treated to prevent moisture and grease from penetrating the wrappers.
There's an extensive article with lots of detail on the CNN website. A number of offenders are mentioned. Not all wrappers at each location were tested.
The highest levels of indicators for PFAS were found in food packaging from Nathan's Famous, Cava, Arby's, Burger King, Chick-fil-A, Stop & Shop and Sweetgreen, according to an investigation released Thursday by Consumer Reports.

It's not new info. I heard about the problem, particularly in food wrappers, a couple of years ago. I can't remember exactly where I heard about it, maybe on a PBS show, but that was some time ago.

I guess if the food doesn't kill you, the wrappings might. Maybe take your own Ziploc bag and ask your burger be put in it? They'd think you were a nut case. I wonder about the boxes McDonald's uses? What does handling this stuff do to your hands and skin?
Oh, and these substances don't break down and will stay in the soil around dumps and landfills forever.

We don't eat from any of the mentioned places.

I doubt most people eating fast food don't even give it a second thought. If they were being conscious of chemicals they probably wouldn't be eating fast food in the first place.

Isn't this the compound also found in non stick? Think that we have been warmed for a long time about that.
Have to wonder if the compound is actually not as bad as the fast food.

Used to be that some bread plastic wrappers had a strong, plastic odor.
I recall having to take my loaf of sliced bread out, airing it for a few hours, and placing the loaf in an odor free storage bag.
Sometimes I used to rub vanilla over the entire loaf of bread, just to neutralize the odor.
Haven't had that problem for several (many) years, thank goodness.
