If the food is in the house, then he will be unsuccessful. It is the equivilant of an alcoholic living in a home with access to scotch and gin. Sugar can be just as addictive as alcohol and drugs dependent upon someone's body chemistry. Some debate that but I have seen up close and personal many people with an addiction to sugar (carbohydrates.)
Not necessarily. I can be around carbs, sugar, pasta and not feel the need to eat it. I used to cook carbs for my partner before he started eating keto and I was fine with that. I broke my carb addiction and so I do not worry about what others are eating or the chocolates in my cupboard (which no one is even eating). Everyone is different so it's not a good idea to start off saying you will fail if around the things you shouldn't be eating. Some people are certainly weaker than others, that's for sure. But eveyrone should start out thinking they have the potential to be strong about it. Will power is really everything.
@Grouchomarx It has nothing to do with "weakness" and everything to do with a true addiction. Will power does not apply to someone addicted to carbohydrates. If they are in the cupboard eventually they will be eaten. A cold turkey approach is what is necessary. I have seen countless Type 2 diabetics with addictions to carbohydrates and all of them have told me that they cannot have junk food in the house. It sounds like the OP's husband is unwilling to change given the fact the OP said it would be difficult to throw out the junk food. Then clearly he plans on eating it....

My doctor is a fan of Keto, but it's not for me. Most of the approved veggies I just don't like. I think green beans and squash may be the only keto-approved ones I like. Oh, and guacamole. Also, unless you have control of your husband at all times, even if you eliminate the carby foods from the house, he'll find ways to eat them when not at home. I have a friend who faces that with her husband. Diet is really something that's going to be up to him with your support.
For me, I used a moderate low carb diet, which was trying to keep my carb count to 100/day total (not net) or less. Most will say that's not low carb, but technically, low carb is anything below 150/day. It's a slow go, but for men it goes a lot faster than for women.
Sounds like your husband isn't willing to give up the sweet stuff. I get it. I have chocolate every day; I just limit it. One Dove or Ghiradelli square is 5 g Carbs. Look into low-carb sweeteners like Swerve or Stevia and check their websites for recipe ideas. Nuts are a good snack that gives a crunch. Most men if you just eliminate beer, bread, pasta, rice, and potatoes will lose weight pretty quickly. However, as soon as they add them back in unless they are very careful will gain it back.

I honestly can't tell you how fed up I get with people making these broad, sweeping statements about a keto lifestyle being terrible. You literally no nothing of how any given person on this diet actually eats. You make assumptions based on what you see in the news and online, many of which don't apply at all. Each person is different in the way they approach it. When I first started I went full tilt and ate a lot of things like bacon, cheese, sausage, etc. I learned quickly that that makes me feel lousy and weighed down. Now my primary proteins are eggs, poultry and seafood with only occasional red meat. I eat veggies at basically every meal. I eat fruit every day. I cook with olive oil. I drink tons of water. I eat very minimal amounts of processed foods. So you think I'm gonna drop dead of heart disease eating like that? My bloodwork good and my BP is now totally under control. My BMI is good too. Stop stereotyping the keto diet, it's such an antiquated way of looking at it and it has helped SO many people get and keep the weight off and learnd how to break the carb addiction for good. Being a vegetarian just isn't for everyone. Yes, it's likely the best diet possible in terms of long term health, but one size does not fit all. Keto certainly isn't for everyone either. Each person needs to see what works for them and address any serious health concerns first.

You could try a sausage and peppers with this diet. It will be missing the onion flavor. Using olive oil in a pan sauté tomatoes, red bell peppers and green bell peppers with the veggie sausage. Bake in the oven at 350 until it looks done.I can t tell if you’re allowed garlic but that would be a decent addition. It’s been so long since I’ve tasted leeks that I forget if they taste oniony. They might work in lieu of onion but I wouldn’t want to ruin thing if they don’t. Scallions might work too.

By the way, this diet is not just Keto. It’s a vegetarian Keto with just a few of the veggie choices allowed on most other Keto plans. I don’t see this version as being any more healthy than other plans but it might kick start your husband’s rapid weight loss. What makes this one hard to use is the lack of soy products and the lack of fish, sea foods and aromatic vegetables. It’s very regimented.
