@dollgal wrote:Is the silicon dioxide better than the bamboo silica? I am just starting my second bag of the bamboo and my Dexa from a few weeks ago showed my spine has finally slipped over to osteoporosis now. I have had osteopenia since my 40's due to a very late diagnosis of a hyperthyroid. I will be 62 soon. I am researching HRT or biodentical hormones. Very encouraging news for the OP. Congratulations!!!
Bamboo silica supps contain 70% silica. Silicon dioxide is 100% pure silica.
'Silica' is the common name for silicon dioxide.

Thank you! I think I will double up on the bamboo silica and then switch to the other.

I'm going to try the silica. After a year's course of Evening, the two Prolia shots, the results of my scan got worse. I don't know what happened, but the Evenity didn't work for me. I'll try the Silica.

I changed over to the Silicon Dioxide because there was a warning that the Bamboo Silica should not be taken long term for those with thyroid disease which I have.

I had Evenity, too. It helped me tremendously. I'll be getting Prolia #2 shot in a few weeks. I hate the Prolia. It gives me terrible back pains. After the Prolia then it's on to a Reclast infusion. Never ends with this osteoporosis.
I hope the silica will help you.

Thanks for posting your experience with Evenity and Prolia.
I am midway through my Evenity treatment and have been becoming less conscientous of protecting my back and hips. After all ... the medicine is suppose to help. Right?
But, as you pointed out .... we don't know if it is working until we get that Dexascan.
As of today, I am going to be much more cautious until I know for sure its working.
Hope the silica works for you .... osteoporosis is such a pain. (Literally.)

I believe it was me who recommended the silica. I've been mentioning it's bone benefits here on this forum for quite some time. I've been taking it for several years...1/4-teaspoon of the loose powder daily.
Where have you seen it sold? I've seen silica capsules and it's derived from horsetail extract, which no one has mentioned here. TIA.

I buy that Bulksupplements silicon dioxide loose powder from amazon. It's 100% pure silica, no fillers or anything thing else.
Horsetail extract is only 25% silica. The rest is whatever is left from the extraction process which would be material from the horsetail plant plus whatever filler they use inside the capsules.

Here is another thought.
Intramuscular injections of silicon as monomethyl trisilanol at a dose of 50 mg twice a week for four months were administered to postmenopausal women with osteoporosis. This treatment was compared to etidronate, fluoride, magnesium, and controls [61]. Patients in all groups received 1000 mg of calcium and 500 IU of Vitamin D daily. A significant improvement in femoral bone density was noted in the silicon group compared to the other groups. Vertebral bone density improved more with administration of magnesium and etidronate than with silicon.
