My GP emailed about the results from my second DEXA following the osteoporosis diagnosis four years ago. Two years ago I was happy to report that I'd slipped back under the line from full osteo to osteopenia and was thrilled then. About a year before that test is when I started the silica.
This year my hip remained stable and my lumbar spine improved! I can't see the report in the portal yet so don't know how many degrees it improved by, but to say I'm happy dancing is an understatement.
This is incredible news for me because I have all the genetic markers for osteo, have severe RA and am no stranger to corticosteroids. Because of the RA I can't do the usually recommended activities such as jumping and running. The best I can do is weight training (and I can't even do heavy loads with that), yin yoga, and I've found barre classes really put a load on the hip joints, spine and core.
I can't vouch 100% that it's taking the bamboo silica daily because there are other factors, including the workouts I can do regularly, having been taken off one bone-robbing med and having my thyroid med reduced, and I take a daily handful of supps including algae calcium blend with Vit. K, magnesium glycinate and Vit. D, and drink the kale smoothies. I will continue taking the silica.
I can't remember the name of the poster who first informed us, but I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. ♥

I believe it was me who recommended the silica. I've been mentioning it's bone benefits here on this forum for quite some time. I've been taking it for several years...1/4-teaspoon of the loose powder daily.

@PilatesLover That's great news! Could I ask you how much bamboo silica you were taking?

The recommendation is 1/4 tsp - I use a heaping 1/4 tsp rather than level. If I forget a day I use 1/2.
The brand I use is Bulk Supplements bamboo extract powder.

I always promote taking calcium, with D3, magnesium and K1 and K2, the K2 is most important. I use mag oxide since that fights constipation which can be due to the calcium

@Shelbelle I take all those too, which no doubt helped. I read that the silica helps your body to absorb and process them.

Silica is the basic building block of collagen. Our bones are nearly half made of collagen. The silica is found within the collagen strands which have calcium and other minerals incorporated to make the actual bone tissue. The silica creates a strong bond between the molecules that make up the total collagen structure. This has nothing to do with absorption in the gut or any place else. Silica is simply a building block that helps build stronger, denser bones.

@SilleeMee You were the one who started me on bamboo silica a few years ago. I still do take it, along with other supplements.

Is the silicon dioxide better than the bamboo silica? I am just starting my second bag of the bamboo and my Dexa from a few weeks ago showed my spine has finally slipped over to osteoporosis now. I have had osteopenia since my 40's due to a very late diagnosis of a hyperthyroid. I will be 62 soon. I am researching HRT or biodentical hormones. Very encouraging news for the OP. Congratulations!!!
